SugarCastle Betting Review

4.0
By:Mike Jones

2024 has been a good year for any punters looking for a new betting site, and SugarCastle is one of many that opened up that year using the popular and efficient BetCloud software. You’ll no doubt recognise the layout of this bookie, though a classy old-school aesthetic is one of a number of features that helps SugarCastle to stand out from the crowd. In this detailed SugarCastle review, we will take a look at everything you could need to know about them, from details about their odds and range of markets, through to info on their customer support platform and selection of payment options.

About SugarCastle

If you’re after a solid new betting site which does the fundamentals well on a sleek website or app, then SugarCastle could just be for you. These guys launched in 2024 on the BetCloud platform, and while that means that there are invariably plenty of similarities between them and most other new betting sites in Australia, there are also a number of differences.

The aesthetic is the most noticeable of them. SugarCastle has a classy blue and yellow themed site and app, with some good old-fashioned Times New Roman font plastered across the page, as you can see below.

You’ll have noticed the mention of an app above, which will no doubt be a big plus for many punters. Given how popular betting apps are it’s hard to believe that some bookies still don’t have them, particularly new ones, but SugarCastle had one ready to go pretty much straight off the bat, and it’s a good one too.

SugarCastle also offers a really solid range of markets for sports, and a couple of nice features like same game multis and the Blended betting option for racing add further to appeal.

Of course, for all of the good stuff, as always there are numerous areas this betting site could improve – understandable given they are still in their infancy. The odds are probably the biggest of these – for sports they are not great albeit not horrible, but they really need to improve the odds that they offer punters for racing.

They also don’t yet have a whole lot of the frills that you’ll find with more established betting sites. Live streaming and live betting, for example, aren’t available with SugarCastle, though they are hardly the only new betting site in this situation. Their payment platform is also really basic, only offering a couple of different options, but this won’t be a biggie for must punters.

Overall, SugarCastle is a pretty run of the mill betting site, but one which has a couple of nice features and a really nice website and app. Getting their odds up to scratch would be the first thing they should focus on in order to really compete with the titans of the industry, but overall this is a solid bookmaker which is well worth checking out.

SugarCastle Review Pros & Cons (+ Verdict)

Below, we take a look at some of the best things about SugarCastle, as well as a handful of areas in which they have plenty of room for improvement

👍SugarCastle Strengths

  • Good selection of sports markets: One of the things that SugarCastle does particularly well is markets available for major sporting events.

  • Easy to use website: The BetCloud platform is popular for a reason, and not only is it easy to use, but its prevalence means that punters will likely be pretty familiar with how to navigate their way around SugarCastle.

  • Nice aesthetic: While many betting sites utilise the same BetCloud platform, they do all put their own spin on it with their aesthetic. Some hit the mark, others don’t, but SugarCastle fits into the latter, with a classy old-school theme making it one of the better looking betting sites around.

👎SugarCastle Weaknesses

  • Very average racing odds: Unfortunately it’s relatively common for new betting sites to struggle to compete with the giants of the industry in terms of odds, and this is certainly the case for SugarCastle when it comes to racing. Their odds here are not great at all, right down the bottom of the ladder in terms of value.
  • Limited payment options: Like many small betting sites, SugarCastle don’t offer much in the way of payment options, with only a couple of ways to both deposit and withdraw with this bookie.
  • Average sports odds: The odds for sports on SugarCastle are not as bad as what they are for racing, but there is still a little bit left to be desired, with most markets offering a little below average odds.

👨‍⚖️SugarCastle Bookmaker Verdict

Many punters put a great deal of importance on odds, which is fair enough – they are pretty damn important. If that sounds like you then the weaknesses above will be pretty concerning, but if you’re only a casual punter not betting large amount or often, then you’ll likely be attracted to the ease of use and easy-on-the-eye nature of the website.

SugarCastle Features

SugarCastle does not exactly have a plethora of features entirely unique to them, but there are still a couple of nice features that are not available everywhere. Below are a couple of the most notable of them.

Same game multi

From not existing a few short years ago, same game multis have incredibly rapidly become one of the most popular ways to bet. The ability to combine multiple legs from one event into an individual bet provides a whole lot of flexibility in your punting, and while these are available with most betting sites there are still some who don’t offer it – particularly new betting sites. SugarCastle is not one of them. They allow customers to place same game multis on most major leagues – you’ll know if it’s available on an event by the presence of an ’SGM’ logo on a particular game, as you can see in the below screenshot.

Importantly the odds they give you are generally pretty good. This is pretty key, because the differences in same game multi odds can vary drastically. Odds for same game multis accumulate as you add legs, but they don’t simply multiply the odds by one another, because often multiple legs will be correlated. For example, if you bet on Team X to win and their best player to score 25 points, those two events are clearly correlated so you won’t get the odds you perhaps expect. Some betting sites take this to the extreme, while others are a bit more generous – SugarCastle, despite not having great odds overall, is pretty good with their SGMs.

Blended

Blended is in some ways the same game multi of the racing world – actually, same race multis probably have that title, but blended follows a similar concept. Basically, this allows you to pick multiple runners from which you think the winner will come. Say, for example, you want to back a couple of runners but can’t decide which one to settle on – with blended, you can choose them both, and then obviously get reduced odds for either one of them to win. This is a much newer feature in the betting world than same game multis, having only really popped up over the past couple of years, and there are plenty of betting sites that do not offer. That the SugarCastle betting site has made it available basically as soon as they launched is a big tick.

SugarCastle Odds

How much you personally care about odds should really depend on how devoted a punter you are. If you’re a serious punter, putting on big sums or simply betting relatively regularly, then you’ll likely be aware that finding the best odds is a pivotal part of betting, and failing to do so makes it really, really hard (even harder than it already is) to turn a profit.

In contrast, if you’re just a casual punter, putting on $5 or $10 bets very occasionally, then the different between a bookie that offers you $1.87 and one that offers $1.89 for the same market is not all that stark. SugarCastle is more likely to appeal to the latter, because their odds are certainly not a feature of the bookmaker.

Let’s start with sports. The below screenshot gives you some idea of the odds that you can expect with SugarCastle. That’s taken for a bunch of upcoming NFL games, and if you take note of the line markets and the over/under points totals, you’ll note that the average odds range from $1.85 to about $1.88. That is pretty low. $1.88 is not too bad – around about what you would expect from lots of bookies – but $1.85 is a really poor number. It’s a similar story for the head-to-heads – the Chargers vs Broncos game, for example, has those two at $2.26 and $1.67 on another major bookie, compared to $2.25 and $1.58 here. Both teams, you’ve probably figured, are therefore lower on SugarCastle, one of them by a lot.

For racing, it’s much the same story – in fact probably even more stark. Let’s take a look at an upcoming race – the odds on SugarCastle are right down the bottom relative to virtually every other major bookmaker, at times even worse than even their stingiest competitor. Of course, with racing there can be quite a lot of variance across the runners – one runner might be good odds and another bad odds with the same site, so prior to betting it can still be worth checking SugarCastle to see if the runner you’re planning on punting on is decent value here. In terms of averages, however, there is plenty to be desired.

Overall, odds are not a strength of SugarCastle. That certainly does not mean that there is no purpose in checking out this new bookmaker as they still have plenty of good stuff to offer, but if odds are your primary concern then you might not be thrilled with what you’ll find here.

SugarCastle Markets

While SugarCastle betting odds are not exactly industry leading, they do compensate to some extent for that by offering a pretty decent range of markets – assuming you generally punt on popular sports leagues. They don’t have a massive range of different sports available, so if you’re looking for the latest odds on an obscure billiards tournament you might struggle, but if you’re looking for NBA, NFL, AFL or NRL betting, for example, you will have a plethora of odds to choose from.

If we take a look at the upcoming NFL game which was included in the above screenshot, for example, we will see no less than 528 different markets available – and that’s with the game still a couple of days away, so a few more might pop up as we near kick off.

So what kind of markets are we looking at here? There are, of course, all of the standard ones front and centre on the match page when you click into it, the likes of moneyline, handicap and points total over/under.

But as you can see on the below screenshot, it does not end there – far from it. Up the top, you can click through to a whole range of different market types. ‘Handicap’, for example, gives you odds on alternate handicaps either for the entire game, one particular half or even just one quarter. Clicking on ‘Player’ will let you take a look at all the player props available, of which there are plenty – for this NFL game, for example, you’ve got over/unders for receiving yards, passing yards, players to have a certain number in a statistical category, which player will score the first or last touchdown in the whole game or a half, and the list goes on. It’s about as extensive as it comes, so if you’re a prop bettor then SugarCastle is certainly worth checking out.

So how about racing? Clearly, the range of markets available for racing are not going to differ as much across different bookies as it will for sports, and with SugarCastle you will get pretty much what you would expect with racing. Every race you would want is available, be that in Australia or international, while you can bet on thoroughbreds, harness or greyhounds.

You’ve then got all the win/place markets and exotics, though SugarCastle also has a couple of notable nice extras here. There’s the ‘Blended’ feature which we talked about above, enabling you to put multiple runners into the one bet if you’re confident one of a few will win, while same race multi enables you to select a certain number of runners to finish in different positions – for example, one to finish top two and another to finish top four.

Overall, the range of markets that you will find at SugarCastle is pretty impressive. There are a huge number of sports markets available for the sports that they do have, even if that list of sports is not all that extensive, while for racing, the standard markets apply while Blended and Same Race Multi are notable extra features.

SugarCastle Live Betting

You will not find all that many brand new betting sites that have live betting available, and unfortunately SugarCastle is no different. Though they do have a good selection of markets available, that does not extend to live betting, so you’re stuck with the good old-fashioned way of betting – before the event actually starts.

Who knows, maybe one day this will be a feature that SugarCastle will add, though more than likely it’s not at the top of the agenda. Live betting requires bookmakers to have someone on the phone to take the bets as per Aussie rules and regulations, and spare cash is not typically something they have to throw about straight away. So while there are plenty of markets with SugarCastle, if you’re looking for live betting odds you’ll have to look elsewhere.

SugarCastle App

There are a few new betting sites that have not yet managed to release an app, and though they are no doubt in the works it’s invariably going to be more difficult for them to acquire new customers without one. But SugarCastle, having launched in August 2024, didn’t waste too much time creating one of their own.

And it’s a pretty good one. Clearly they maintain the standout aesthetic which is so memorable on their website, while the usability of the app is also of a pretty high quality. I’ve had a little play around on it to suss out how well it works and by and large it was pretty good, though I did come across a couple of little glitches – pages struggling to load and the like. Hopefully, these will be ironed out over time, but as mentioned it was predominantly relatively functional.

There have been some criticisms of the app by users online, but by and large these were criticisms pertaining to difficulties contacting customer support or withdrawing, rather than issues with the app itself – and as we all know, people with something negative to say are much more likely to leave reviews!

Overall, this is a pretty good betting app. It’s easy to use, it’s generally relatively functional, and it enables you to use SugarCastle without having to open up your laptop.

SugarCastle Promotions

There’s nothing like a good promo – those that if used properly, you can really profit off. I can remember a few really good ones in my time – early payouts that you can easily use to your advantage, for example – but while such promos do exist, there are also plenty that sound a hell of a lot more than they are in reality.

SugarCastle offers a relatively good selection of promos, though as with every bookmaker, these are coming and going like a feather in the wind. Per Australian law they are not allowed to offer sign-up bonuses, but further to that they are not allowed to advertise their promotions to anyone who is not already a customer – and that extends to us, too!

We can’t legally tell you what promos are available with any betting site, but there would not be all that much point anyway. Given how quickly they change, there’s not much point publishing what is currently on offer as that promo may well be gone within a few days, so if you want to know what’s available at SugarCastle you’ll need to have an account and be logged into it.

SugarCastle Withdrawal

Now into the nitty gritty – the different payment methods available with SugarCastle…woohoo! So maybe it’s not the most exciting topic, but it’s still something that you need to know when sussing out a new betting site.

Most of these 2024-launched, BetCloud-using bookmakers keep it simple with their payment methods, which is understandable. Of all the different areas you can try to keep your punters as happy as possible, payment methods are one which most people are probably not too fussed about. Certainly there would be some punters who love using Skrill, ApplePay or another payment method like that, but by and large most will be happy with debit/credit card and bank transfer.

And that is all that you will have available to you if you use SugarCastle. For deposits, you’ve got both of these options. Debit/credit card includes VISA and Mastercard and will see funds deposited instantly into your account, and has a deposit minimum of $10. There is also a deposit minimum of $10 for bank transfer, but bear in mind this won’t arrive immediately in your betting account.

For withdrawals, you’ll have to be happy with bank transfer. Once again, this will take a little bit of time to get to your account – sometimes on the same day but generally one to two days later – and there is a withdrawal minimum of $10.

It’s a pretty standard payment platform, and one which sticks to the basics – much in line with the rest of the SugarCastle betting site, which doesn’t offer too many frills but does the fundamentals to a high level. If you’re happy with debit/credit card and bank transfer, which most will be, then this payment platform will be more than sufficient for you.

SugarCastle Customer Support

It can be difficult to differentiate between all the different bookies that have popped up recently, particularly those that use the BetCloud platform. There are certain areas that are still going to be unique for each of them – their odds, for example, or their aesthetic – but customer support is one area in which they all tend to be pretty similar, and SugarCastle is no exception.

Like many of their fellow 2024 launchees, SugarCastle has opted to provide two of the there main contact methods employed by betting sites; live chat and an email. This, of course, means that there is no phone option, and the inclusion of one would no doubt make their customer support platform that little bit better. Unless you’re really fussy about your customer support, though, it won’t likely matter all that much.

Live chat remains the best option in my view, as it is on most bookies. You can do this directly on the website or the betting app, and won’t usually have to wait for long with SugarCastle – at least I haven’t in my experience.

Alternatively, shoot off an email if you’d prefer to communicate in that way. I would generally avoid doing this as I’d prefer to have things resolved then and there, but obviously there are circumstances in which you might not have the time nor patience to sit around on live chat. Shooting off an email and then forgetting about it until later can certainly feel a little easier a lot of the time.

Regardless of which you choose, this is a pretty standard customer support platform; one which doesn’t stand out in any particular way but will still get the job done. This is in line with much of the rest of SugarCastle, a betting site with no major frills but which has the fundamentals down pretty pat.

FAQs About SugarCastle

Why should I choose SugarCastle?

SugarCastle is certainly not the most accomplished betting site going around, but what it does offer is a straightforward betting experience that makes it quick and easy to punt on your favourite sports. If you’re just after a simple, quality bookie without too many bells and whistles, then SugarCastle is certainly worth checking out.

Who can bet with SugarCastle?

As always, there are two criteria that you need to fulfil to bet with SugarCastle. First of all, you need to be at least 18 years of age in order to have an account, while if you want to place a bet or even access the site you will also need to be in Australia.

Will SugarCastle ever offer live streaming?

Never say never, but at this point there is no live streaming available with SugarCastle and there is no suggestion that they will be offering it anytime soon. This is the case for most new betting sites, with broadcast rights generally a bit out of their price range. If they were going to offer anything, generally something like Sky Racing is the first thing to pop up, but for the time being and likely the foreseeable future live streaming is not available on SugarCastle.

Is the SugarCastle app or desktop site easier to use?

This probably depends on whether you prefer to punt on your computer or mobile, but for me the betting app is the way to go. The SugarCastle app is streamlined and straightforward, and generally runs pretty fast, and for me the ability to just pick up my phone and access everything they have to offer makes the app the way to go.

How do I sign up with SugarCastle?

If you’ve got a spare one, maybe two minutes, then you’ll be able to sign up with SugarCastle in that time. It’s that easy. Simply head to the site and locate the ‘SIGN UP’ button on the top right hand corner of your page. This will bring up a new page asking for some basic details – fill those in and voila, you will be ready to go.

Conclusion & Final Thoughts

In many ways, SugarCastle is just another betting site boasting many of the same features – and many of the same problems – as other new bookies. But no two betting sites are the same, and this one certainly has its own unique set of pros and cons. Though they could certainly improve in some areas, particularly the odds that they offer, If you’re after a simple, efficient bookie with a quality range of markets then you will be well looked after at SugarCastle.
