NRL 2023 Finals Round 2 – Betting tips & Predictions

The first round of finals is done and dusted, and we are down to 6 teams remaining! The Broncos kept the Storm scoreless while the Panthers dominated the Warriors to secure their spots in the prelims, while the Roosters edged the Sharks in a thriller, while the Knights came from behind to beat the Raiders in extra time! Now onto the semi-finals, stay tuned as we dive into these games and help you find value across both games!

Our first semi-final sees the Storm hosting the Roosters. The Storm are coming off a disappointing 26-0 loss to the Broncos, whereas the Roosters are coming off a gutsy 13-12 win against the Sharks. The Storm really struggled to get anything going in attack, failing to score a point and only getting 1 linebreak all game. There was unfortunate injury news with Coates suffering an ankle sprain and likely being out for the game and Papenhuyzen sadly suffering a lower leg break after spending so much time off the field. The Roosters pulled off a heroic win away to the Sharks but also suffered a heavy injury toll, losing Suaalii to concussion, Billy Smith to a broken jaw as well as likely Manu to a hamstring reinjury.

Down on troops this one is going to be very tough for the Roosters at Aami Park. However, the Roosters have shown tremendous heart and form in recent weeks, winning 6 in a row, with the last being in tough circumstances, suffering lots of injury and having Tedesco in the sinbin. While the Storm are better placed to win this one, I think the bookies are writing off the Roosters, who have pushed through adversity all season.

Our other semi-final sees the Warriors hosting the Knights. The Warriors were beat 32-6 by the Panthers, while the Knights beat the Raiders 30-28 in extra time. Both sides were quite disappointing last week, with the Warriors really missing Shaun Johnson, although he will be back this week. The Warriors were suffocated by the Panthers, which most teams are, defending their goal line and then attacking with no mercy. The Warriors haven’t looked great for a matter of weeks now. The Knights looked very shaky against the Raiders, falling 16-6 behind, before scoring 4 in a row. Their defense was poor but their attacking weapons in Ponga, Marzhew and Young pulled through.

If either team come out flat this week they will be outclassed by their opposition. The Warriors are missing Luke Metcalf, while the Knights will be stressing on the fitness of Jackson Hastings. I think this one will be a shootout, with both sides loving to play exciting, expansive footy. I lean towards the Knights with the head start but this one will be a great watch either way.
