News Insights

  • Only 8 sides are left in the 2023/24 edition of the Champions League.
  • Defending champions Manchester City have breezed through the group stages but play Real Madrid next.
  • Premier League leaders Arsenal take on German giants Bayern Munich.
  • Elsewhere, PSG take on Barcelona, whilst Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund do battle.

When it comes to sporting club competitions, no tournaments get the juices following for punters and international betting sites in the way that the Champions League does.

Only 8 teams are left in contention for glory this season and it promises to be a titanic battle to see which side will come out on top at Wembley in June.

Winning the Champions League remains the yardstick for any football team in Europe and for Manchester City, that box was finally ticked in 2023.

Pep Guardiola’s side have long been regarded as the best team in Europe and the world for that matter, but winning a Champions League does of course cement that assertion.

In 2024, only 8 sides remain in the competition and with 4 superb quarter finals in prospect, it should be an epic battle for every team left in the tournament, as they chase the biggest prize in European club football.

City vs Real III

It is testament to both Manchester City and Real Madrid that their consistency in the Champions League has seen them reach the quarter finals in each of the past three seasons.

One facet that will be frustrating both sides however is the fact that they have met each other in either the last 8 or the last 4, in each of the last three campaigns.

2022 was all about Real, who showed incredible powers of recovery to overcome a two-goal deficit in injury time and ultimately beat City and then Liverpool, to lift the trophy.

Last year it was about revenge for City, who hammered Real 5-1 over two legs, going on to beat Inter Milan in the final in Istanbul.

Arsenal are back

Despite having never won the Champions League, Arsenal have long been regarded as one of the elite teams in Europe.

However, their absence from the Champions League for most of the last decade had seen them drop off the pace but big spending has propelled them back into European contention with many football betting sites

Bayern Munich await next, a side with a rich European football history but the Germans are faltering, and Arsenal will be ready to rattle into them in the last 8.

Big names everywhere

Reaching the last 8 of the Champions League is not for the fainthearted and the other 4 sides left in the competition all have their merits with many punters and betting sites.

PSG have been bankrolled to the hilt but have never won the Champions League, something they will be looking to change as they take on Barcelona in the last 8.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund will have a real crack at each other, with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs for the winner.

The Champions League holds a unique place in the hearts and minds of football fans and the business end of the competition is upon us in 2024.

Manchester City remain the side to beat but with plenty of other teams ready to hunt them down, it promises to be another tournament to remember, with the final at Wembley on June 1st.
