In the modern age, very few tennis players have captured the hearts and minds of tennis betting fans in the way that Nick Kyrgios has.
A prodigious talent, who has always been one to watch with both Aussie and international betting sites, Kyrgios’s ability to amaze and self-destruct in equal measure has made him compelling viewing.
However, injury has once again ruled him out of the Australian Open again in 2024.
With the last Australian winner of the men’s Australian Open singles title coming back in 1976, there is a sense of expectation that hangs over every home player in the Australian Open draw.
Over the past few seasons, Aussie hopes have sat firmly on the shoulders of Nick Kyrgios – a player who has been through the mill in the eyes of the Aussie public.
However, Kyrgios let his tennis do the talking in 2022 – reaching the final of Wimbledon and lifting the men’s doubles trophy at Melbourne Park.
High hopes were held for Kyrgios’s chances in 2024 but he has been ruled out of action through injury.
Quiet 12 months
Whenever Nick Kyrgios is in town, a storm of sorts is often caused. The unpredictability of Kyrgios both on and off the court adds to his appeal but does bring a sense of volatility from an online betting perspective.
Following his superb season in 2022, Nick Kyrgios was expected to kick on and fulfil the potential he had always clearly held.
However, 2023 was a hugely frustrating season for Kyrgios, who only managed to play in one ATP level tournament, and he will be hoping that his injury problems are coming to an end soon.
Public enemy to fan’s favourite
Whilst the punters at Melbourne Park will be pining for Nick Kyrgios at the 2024 Australian Open, it wasn’t too long ago that the ‘bad boy’ of Aussie tennis was public enemy number one.
Petulant displays in big tournaments had never endeared Kyrgios to the Australian public and it wasn’t until he and Thanasi Kokkinakis won the men’s doubles title in 2022 that perception of Kyrgios across Australia changed.
He is now being tipped to win every event he plays in with many Aussie bookmakers and with the home fans backing him, he would have been a serious contender for the title here in Melbourne if he was fit.
Djokovic to be too good again?
With an incredible 10 Australian Open men’s singles titles to his name, Novak Djokovic remains the favourite to come out on top in the 2024 edition of the tournament.
Very few online betting sites are going against Djokovic for the title this year, with the Serb having been in imperious form of late on the ATP Tour.
With the likes of Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev and Jannik Sinner all likely to challenge, it promises to be another Australian Open to remember in 2024.
The start of the calendar year always has sports fans turning towards the next big event and the Australian Open remains one of the big draws in January each year.
Home fans had been hoping local boy Nick Kyrgios would be in action, but injury has once again ruled out the Aussie star from taking part in his home Grand Slam in 2024.
