Few leagues in world football are as notoriously tough to get out of as the Championship but Ipswich Town have been able to achieve just that.

The Tractor Boys were in the doldrums of League One just a couple of seasons ago, but back-to-back promotions have propelled them back to the EPL for the first time since 2002.

East Anglia remains one of the great untouched footballing hotbeds, with the rivalry between Norwich City and Ipswich Town often the biggest talking point in the region.

Over the past couple of decades, it has been Norwich City in the hotseat, who have enjoyed some Premier League highs and punched above their weight in the EPL and cup competitions.

However, the cyclical nature of football has seen Ipswich Town now emerge as a Premier League force, after achieving automatic promotion from the Championship in behind Leicester City, an outcome not foreseen by many punters or betting sites

Incredible Ipswich

For a club with the stature of Ipswich Town, playing in League One simply isn’t good enough and Kieran McKenna has overseen a revolution that has completely changed the narrative at Portman Road.

With their swashbuckling style of football, Ipswich were amongst the front runners in the Championship from the outset, as they built on their superb campaign in League One.

Holding off the challenges from Leeds United and Southampton, Ipswich booked their ticket to the Premier League on the final day of the season and their summer rebuild looks to be an exciting period.

The Winning Habit

Ipswich were record-breaking during their League One campaign in 2022/23 and the winning habit was carried over into the Championship with ease.

Throughout the long and arduous season of 46 games in the Championship, the Tractor Boys only lost 6 games, comfortably the best record in the division.

Ultimately, it was being unbeaten in 40 from their 46 fixtures that saw them over the line, as they finished 6 points clear of Leeds United, to secure second place behind Leicester City.

Who will join them in the Premier League?

Whilst Ipswich can enjoy some relaxation before their big summer revamp begins, for 4 other Championship sides, the playoffs loom large.

Having been relegated last season, both Leeds United and Southampton were expected to bounce straight back into the EPL, and they are the favourites for playoff glory with many punters and football betting sites

Elsewhere, the likes of West Bromwich Albion and local rivals Norwich City are also firmly in the playoff hunt, with only one more EPL place available for the 2024/25 season.

Gaining promotion from the Championship to the Premier League is one of the toughest things to do in English football and Ipswich Town have achieved it.

Kieran McKenna’s side are in the EPL for the first time since 2002 and they will be doing all they can to survive beyond the 2024/25 campaign.
