David Warner not selected for the Hundred

Few cricketers worldwide are as box office as David Warner, and the Australian has courted the attention of many punters and international betting sites since announcing his intention to focus on T20 and franchise cricket.

However, a potential winter in England hasn’t transpired, as Warner has been overlooked by all 8 of the teams in the UK for the upcoming Hundred competition.

The fanfare for his Test retirement at the beginning of 2024 was representative of just how highly regarded David Warner is within both Australian and international cricket.

A fierce competitor on the field of play and a controversial character off it, Warner has always split opinion but his talents with the bat in hand are undeniable.

Now that he has entered the twilight of his career, Warner is pursuing success in T20 franchise cricket worldwide and his entry into the Hundred draft in the UK was big news.

However, none of the 8 teams have found a place for Warner in their squad, enabling him to focus solely on the Australian T20 side.

Davey’s disappointment

Whilst there were English and international stars littered through the draft list for the 2024 Hundred competition, very few held the gravitas that David Warner does.

The Aussie firecracker may be winding down in terms of his cricketing commitments but his desire to score runs remains as prevalent as ever and he will be hugely disappointed not to be picked up in the draft.

In addition, the lure of being able to have David Warner on the field of play could have been lucrative for many franchises, as it is for the Sydney Thunder in the BBL, yet there will be no Hundred outings for Warner in 2024.

Nicky P number one

The Northern Super Chargers endured a terrible campaign in 2023 and they have turned to former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff for guidance, as they look to bounce back in 2024.

‘Freddie’ has opted to select Nicholas Pooran as his number one draft pick, with the West Indian known with many punters and betting sites for winning games all over the globe in franchise cricket.

With the likes of Ben Stokes, Adil Rashid and Harry Brook alongside him, the Northern Super Chargers look to have an excellent side in the 2024 edition of the Hundred.

Big names aplenty

The draft system used in the Hundred competition enables both international big hitters and domestic stars to rub shoulders and some of the biggest names on the planet will be taking part in the Hundred once again in 2024.

The Trent Rockets have gone big, with Rovman Powell, Imad Wasim and Rashid Khan giving them a blockbuster feel, whilst Kieron Pollard will be plying his trade for the Southern Brave.

Shaheen Afridi will head up the attack for the Welsh Fire, Adam Zampa will be looking to spin it for the Oval Invincibles, whilst Naseem Shah was the left field pick for the Birmingham Phoenix.

David Warner’s post Australian Test team career was set to get off to a flyer in England, but he has been overlooked for the 2024 Hundred competition.

For Warner, he will now focus on the upcoming T20 international for Australia, whilst the Hundred looks set to be a success once more in 2024.
