When it comes to hitting a cricket ball very hard, very few players in the world can compete with Jonny Bairstow. The fiery red-headed Yorkshireman has long been regarded as one of the best batters in the world by punters and international betting sites and his role in the England side is crucial. Bairstow is currently playing his 100th Test Match for England in India and who knows how many more years he has in an England shirt.

English cricket finds itself in a position of strength it has seldom been in over the years and a huge part of that is the quality and calibre of player that they have within their ranks.

In the likes of Joe Root and Ben Stokes, two of the greatest ever players to have ever donned an England shirt, they have Jonny Bairstow – an outside of the box player, who has revolutionised English cricket in recent times.

Now aged 34, Bairstow is playing his 100th Test Match for England in India, with his side 3-1 down in an enthralling series and his impact on this England side looks to be as telling as it ever has been before.

Yorkshire Grit

Despite heralding from a cricketing family, Jonny Bairstow had to battle huge personal tragedy in his youth, with his father passing away and he channeled his attention into making it at the highest level.

Bairstow first broke through in the English Test team in his early 20’s and despite long periods out of the side, as England chopped and changed their approach, Bairstow has shown his worth at Test level time and time again.

Now a confident and swashbuckling middle-order batter, Bairstow has certainly put in the hard yards in the international cricketing arena and he is always a favourite with cricketing punters and betting sites.

Bazball Bairstow

Whilst Bairstow played an integral role in England winning both the 2019 ODI World Cup and the 2022 T20 World Cup, his impact in the Test arena has always felt a little more subdued.

That was until England were taken over by Brendan McCullum, the former Kiwi superstar who has seen his style of play coined as ‘Bazball’, something that seems to have suited Bairstow perfectly.

In series wins over New Zealand and India at home and Pakistan away, Jonny Bairstow was prolific with the bat in hand and when he’s on his game, he is very difficult to stop.

Brook lying ahead?

Passing 100 Test Matches for England is a seismic milestone and Jonny Bairstow became only the 17th player to achieve the incredible feat here in India.

However, a recent downturn in form has led to calls in some quarters for Bairstow’s place to be looked at, especially with Ben Foakes taking over the gloves from him so seamlessly.

His Yorkshire teammate Harry Brook was enthralling during the Ashes series in England in 2023 and he looks to be ready to step into the breach, but Jonny Bairstow certainly doesn’t look ready to step aside just yet.

Jonny Bairstow became just the 17th English player to play 100 Test Matches for his country this week, as England continue to toil away in India.

An explosive batter, who can take the game away from any opposition, Bairstow continues to be feared the world over, as he works towards collecting his next 100 caps.
