2023/24 NBA Championship Betting Preview

Being crowned the 2024 NBA Champions is of course the key aim for every franchise and following a record-breaking All-Star game, attention amongst punters and NBA betting apps naturally turns to the race to be crowned as champions.

Defending champions Denver Nuggets have been stoically defending their crown but with the likes of the Boston Celtics and Cleveland Cavaliers going well in the East, as well as the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder in the West, it should be a race to the wire.

2024/24 NBA Championship Winner Odds

Championship Favorites

The race for the NBA Championship title is always hotly contested and once again, it is a contest that is catching the eye with punters on both domestic and international betting sites.

For some teams, timing their runs to perfection and will be key, whilst others will look to hang on to what they’ve got and come good in the playoffs.

Thankfully, with so many sides in the mix, MyBettingAustralia is on hand to keep punters in the loop in the race for the 2024 NBA Championship title.

Boston Celtics

For every year that passes, the intensity and scrutiny on the Boston Celtics rises and once again in 2024, much is expected of the Celtics. They have decimated the field in the East, with consistent results and they are the firm favourites to go all the way and lift the title with many NBA betting sites.

What brings them here?

Consistency. Holding off the likes of the Milwaukee Bucks and the Cleveland Cavaliers is a serious task and the Boston Celtics have done a stellar job at keeping the chasing pack at arm’s length this season, by consistently putting wins on the board.

What could hold them off?

Uncertainty. For all the excitement and talk about how good the Boston Celtics have been this season, the fact remains that they have not won the NBA Championship title for 15 years. That will play on the minds of many of their playing staff and they will need to prove a few doubters wrong if they are to lift the 2024 NBA Championship crown.

Injury Report

The Boston Celtics are blessed currently on the injury front, and they have a full roster to pick from.

Denver Nuggets

Defending a title is never easy but the Denver Nuggets have been in fine fettle once again this season and they are a serious force to be reckoned with, as the post-season period looms. Despite some patchy form in the Western Conference, they will comfortably make the play-offs and they should be a side to seriously keep an eye on.

What brings them here?

Having what it takes. Getting the job done is invariably the hallmark of a successful side and the Denver Nuggets were hugely impressive in winning the NBA in 2023. That scalp made many domestic and international betting sites stand up and take note and the Nuggets are currently one of the biggest draws in the NBA.

What could hold them off?

Running out of steam. For the Denver Nuggets, going all the way and winning the title in 2023 felt seismic and whilst they have maintained their high standards in 2024, they could run out of gas at some point. Small signs have been creeping in of late in the West and they will need to stay on track for the remainder of the campaign.

Injury Report

Only long-term absentees Hunter Tyson and Vlatko Cancar remain out of action for the Denver Nuggets.

Los Angeles Clippers

Whilst naysayers would point to their expensively assembled squad as the rationale behind the LA Clippers managing to compete in the NBA this season, there is far more to it than that. The Clippers are flying over in the West, and they are certainly the most dangerous outfit left in the competition for the likes of the Celtics and the Nuggets.

What brings them here?

Turning on the style. Key men James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Kawhi Leonard have all stepped up for the Clippers this season and whilst they are a quartet that enjoy proving the doubters wrong, they are also gelling well as a team.

What could hold them off?

The bubble bursting. Having climbed up to 3rd place in the Western Conference in recent times, the LA Clippers could encounter a loss of form and how they respond to that will be a key query for all Clippers fans.

Injury Report

There is a clean bill of health amongst the LA Clippers franchise currently.

Milwaukee Bucks

Having had to deal with plenty of change off the court at the start of the year, it would seem that things have settled somewhat at the Milwaukee Bucks and Doc Rivers looks to have firmly stamped his authority on his squad.

The Bucks are back in the hunt and the Eastern Conference and with confidence resonating through the camp, who knows how far they can go this term.

What brings them here?

Being revitalised. Whilst it was hardly crisis point for the Milwaukee Bucks, the fact of the matter remains that they weren’t performing to their potential but now look to be – sat pretty in 3rd place in the Eastern Conference and building towards the playoffs.

What could hold them off?

Bad habits creeping back in. Having to change a coach during the season is never a great look and it was something the Milwaukee Bucks opted to do at the start of 2024. They still retain an excellent squad, with a myriad of big names, meaning they remain one of the favourites to win the 2024 NBA Championship glory with all NBA betting sites

Injury Report

Khris Middleton has a long-term complaint, whilst Giannis Antetokounmpo, Pat Connaughton and Danilo Gallinari are all in and out of the treatment room.

NBA Championship – Teams to watch out for

As the months tick along, being in a position to strike in both the Eastern and Western Conferences becomes a priority and all teams are looking to get their ducks in a row here.

With plenty of basketball still to be played, there is ample time for teams to force their way into the NBA Championship picture.

Phoenix Suns

Few franchises go through the mill in the way that the Phoenix Suns do, and their unpredictability is very much part of their charm and intrigue with many betting sites and who knows how far they can go this term. They’re now back in the playoff mix in the West and they will be up for saving their best stuff until the end of the season here.

What brings them here?

X-Factor. Having been out of the playoff picture for a long time in the West, the Phoenix Suns certainly have bounced back with a bang of late and they are firmly in the hunt to compete in the post-season action. Their reputation is fierce, and they can truly beat anybody on their day.

What could hold them off?

Blowing cold. For all the plaudits the Phoenix Suns have had this season, they have still endured spells of inconsistency and they will be desperate to ensure that they don’t slip back into bad habits over the end of the season.

Injury Report

Bol Bol and Damion Lee remain out of action for an otherwise fit Phoenix Suns roster.

New York Knicks

There is always one team that forces their way into NBA playoff contention and over in the East, the New York Knicks have bulldozered their way into the mix. Having endured a quiet start to the campaign, the Knicks were just ticking along, before a burst at the beginning of 2024 has propelled them firmly into NBA Championship contention.

What brings them here?

Momentum. Getting on a roll and winning games is the ultimate aim for every NBA franchise and the New York Knicks look to be firing when it matters most. Maintaining it through the playoffs and the post season will be their main challenge but they look to be firing on all cylinders at the moment.

What could hold them off?

Loss of belief. For many in the New York Knicks camp, a run like this is unchartered territory and a few bad results could spark doubt within the Knicks camp at the worst possible time in the season. They are a very good outfit though, who have plenty of kudos with betting sites and they will take some stopping.

Injury Report

The New York Knicks are battling a few injuries, despite their good form, with OG Anunoby, Julius Randle, Mitchell Robinson, and Duane Washington Jr all out of action.

Oklahoma City Thunder

Whilst some of the more traditional big hitters continue to falter over in the West, Oklahoma City Thunder continue to prove themselves as viable NBA Championship candidates. Thunder have been unerringly consistent this term and who knows how far they can go.

What brings them here?

Fearlessness. When everybody expected them to falter this season, Oklahoma City Thunder have just kept trucking on, and their confident approach has enabled them to see off plenty of competitors in the West this term. They are firmly in the mix to win the Western Conference and they look like a serious force to be reckoned with.

What could hold them off?

The cut and thrust of the NBA. Whilst the results that Oklahoma City Thunder have been churning out are hugely impressive, the NBA has a habit of knocking teams off their perch and Thunder will need to keep the intensity up of they are to feature too strongly in the post-season.

Injury Report

Currently, there are no major injury issues for Oklahoma City Thunder to deal with.

Minnesota Timberwolves

Another team tearing up the form book is the Minnesota Timberwolves, who have been in fine fettle in the Western Conference all season. Capitalising on some big hitters being off the boil is never easy but the Timberwolves have managed it this season and they look like a very serious threat, beyond the playoffs and deep into post season.

What brings them here?

Flying high. Minnesota Timberwolves are sitting pretty at the top of the Western Conference table, and they look to be a side full of belief. With 39 wins from 55 games played, there is an air of invincibility about them currently and the players seem to be enjoying the ride as much as their fans.

What could hold them off?

Question marks. For all the plaudits the Timberwolves have been receiving this season, there are still a few queries as to whether they can actually go all the way and lift the NBA Championship trophy. For now, though, they are doing their bit, and they won’t want the bubble to burst any time soon.

Injury Report

Jaylen Clark remains the one and only Timberwolves player on the bleachers currently.

NBA Championship Winner – Top Pick Boston Celtics

Trying to call which side will win the NBA Championship with a few months of the season still to play is never easy but all eyes are currently on the Boston Celtics, as they look to end their 15-year-wait for the title.

They are the standout performers in the East, consistently picking up results both at TD Garden and on the road and whilst the contenders will line up to shoot them down, the Boston Celtics will certainly take some stopping this season.
