Having first been held back in 2017, The Everest has quickly become one of the most sought after and talked about races on the Australian and international horse racing betting scene.

Key to the appeal is of course the staggering A$20 million prize pot but there are some quality operators in the mix, and it should be a fascinating contest at Royal Randwick. 

Very few races create as much conjecture and speculation on the calendar with Aussie bookmakers as The Everest does and once again in 2023, a stellar field has assembled at Royal Randwick.

Returning at Caulfield three weeks ago, it looked to be a little under cooked for a race of this magnitude, but it is a horse that always turns up on the big occasions and they don’t come any bigger than The Everest.

Peter Moody & Katherine Coleman have of course entrusted Luke Nolen in the saddle and few combinations in the field look as potent, giving I Wish I Win a real chance of creating history in this one.

When it comes to impressive seasons, very few horses can compete with Think About It.

Having triumphed in its last 8 outings and with a 100% career placing record, Think About It has all of the biggest Aussie punters and bookmakers in a real tizz.

Roaring home over course and distance just two weeks ago is another huge tick in the box, for a horse that looks to have no ceiling currently.

Of course, few races get owners and trainers moving as much as The Everest does, thanks in the main to the huge sums of money up for grabs and Joseph Pride will be desperate to see his prodigal horse get the job done here.

Waiting for the draw

Whilst speculation in a race as important and lucrative as The Everest is always at fever pitch in the week building up to the race, so much of the betting operation around the race depends on the draw each horse is given.

All 12 horses and connections will be eagerly anticipating the outcome of the track draw at Royal Randwick on Thursday 12th October and from there, the biggest and best Aussie bookmakers will begin to formulate their markets.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott will be hoping their big hope Hawaii Five Oh gets a favourable draw, as will Chris Waller who has won this race before and has two hopes in the mix in 2023, with Espiona and Shinzo ready to take on the challenge.
