Nash Rawiller is set to miss the Caulfield Cup and the Cox Plate

No matter a jockey’s stature within the Australian horse racing fraternity, racing suspensions are an occupational hazard. 

Few jockeys in the paddock have the knowhow of Nash Rawiller but an unfortunate incident at Randwick Kensington, has ruled him out of both the Caulfield Cup and the Cox Plate.  

Over the last 20 years, few jockeys have enjoyed as much success as Nash Rawiller, with his reputation going before him both internationally and in the hearts and minds of the major Aussie bookmakers. 

A staple in big meets in New South Wales, Australia and the world over, Rawiller is well known for getting the very best out of his horses but a careless ride at Randwick Kensington on 18th October proved to be a costly one. 

Rawiller pleaded guilty to the charge but had the book thrown at him, meaning he will miss rides in both the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate, as part of a 7- race meeting ban. 

Cox Plate anguish 

Having won the Caulfield Cup back in 2004 aboard Elvstroem, Rawiller has ticked a pretty significant Group 1 winning box. 
 
However, the Cox Plate is a race that has long eluded Nash Rawiller and the 7-day ban imposed upon him, will put pay to any hopes of breaking his duck in that race in 2023. 
 
His scheduled for the Cox Plate was Fangirl, a seriously impressive horse that overcame Mr. Brightside in the King Charles III Stakes at Royal Randwick last month. 
 
For the consummate professional Rawiller, he will of course be backing Fangirl all the way for Cox Plate glory in 2023 but he may well be left wondering as to what might have been if it gets the job done. 
 
Further big rides missed 

Winning a Caulfield Cup will of course be a pleasant but distant memory for Rawiller, who looked to have another serious shot of repeating the feat in 2023. 
 
Experienced campaigner Montefilia finds itself as one of the favourites for glory at the $5 million Caulfield Cup on 21st October, having won the Petaluma Stakes a fortnight ago. 
 
Rawiller was rightfully being lauded for his ride on board Montefilia in that race, using all of his experience to steer it over the line and how he would have loved to have been in the mix once again here at Caulfield. 
 
Trainer Chris Waller will be happy to settle for the reputable Blake Shinn in the saddle, who looks set to sit in for Rawiller in plenty of the big races he will be missing over the next 7 meetings. 
 
The big races missed don’t stop there for Rawiller either, with his ride on board Espiona in the forthcoming Manikato Stakes at The Valley also falling by the wayside. 
 
Rawiller to return with a bang 

Missing 7 races within any season is far from ideal for any jockey, as wins translate into seasonal earnings and points in the race for the Champion Jockey title. 
 
Having been operating at the very top of the Australian racing scene for over two decades, Nash Rawiller knows what it takes to bounce back from disappointments, and he looks set to do the same again this year. 
 
Whilst it may not seem like it now, the 7-meeting ban Rawiller is currently enduring will be over in a flash and he will back in the saddle before he and punters know it. 
 
Currently, Hawaii Five Oh is Rawiller’s first scheduled ride back following his suspension, with the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott flyer one of the favourites in the $10 million Golden Eagle at Rosehill Gardens. 

Jockey suspensions are always huge talking points for punters and bookmakers and the 7-race sanction placed on Nash Rawiller sees him miss the Cox Plate and the Caulfield Cup. 
 
However, the 48-year-old is one of the most feared jockeys in the paddock and he will be raring to go when the ban is lifted, with plenty of big rides on the horizon in 2023.
