Saturday Racing Tips - Moonee Valley 30/12/23

10 races make up an excellent card at Moonee Valley on the final Saturday of 2023 and there is heaps of betting opportunities out there with the biggest and best Aussie bookmakers.

The midpoint of what should be a super day of racing at Moonee Valley is the Ladbroke It Stakes in race 5. There are a whole host of excellent horses in this contest, with plenty of Aussie bookmakers sure to be keeping an eye on the action as it unfolds here. 
 
Ran over 2040m, this will be a real test of both attrition and speed for those who line up here, with a rather handy A$130,000 up for grabs in the prize pot too.  
 
Ladbroke It! Stakes 

Whilst it may not be the race that is down as the headline act from Moonee Valley on paper, the calibre of the horses competing in the Ladbroke It Stakes speaks for itself. 

With horses in the field that have cleared well over half a million dollars’ worth of career prize money, there is plenty on the line here and the 2040m trip should make it an enthralling watch. 

Topping the betting is Kiwi flyer Dunkel, a horse that has long held a fierce reputation and who possesses an excellent record over this distance. There will be plenty in the field that could push Dunkel here, but it has all the hallmarks of a winner here at Moonee Valley at $2.20 with Playup. 

Key challenge here will come in the form of Independent Road, a 7-year-old that looks to be coming into form in the relative twilight of its career. Suitability looks to be no question over the 2040m track and whilst Dunkel is a seriously good horse, Independent Road cannot be discarded at $2.60 with Bet365. 

Big names continue to make their claims in this one, with the likes of Tycoon Bec and Grand Promenade having both won big races previously and they will both be ready to pounce should the opportunity arise at $6.00 and $26.00 respectively with Punterspal.  

It is Ladbrokes who put their name to this contest too, with the Ladbrokes Racing Club Stakes up for grabs here in race 7 at Moonee Valley. This is a contest that looks tough to call with both old and new betting sites and there is an international flavour to proceedings here.

With a 70 handicap mark the cap here, this race doesn’t look too much of a contest to those outside of the inner sanctum of Australian racing but there is a strong field assembled for a contest of this nature. 

Topping the betting is local favourite Zamborghini, a horse that does look to have plenty of potential and who won well over a very similar distance at Moonee Valley last time out. Whilst this is clearly a step up in competition, Zamborghini is a very strong horse over this type of distance and it will take some catching at $3.40 with Punterspal.  

Kiwi flyers tend to have a decent record here at Moonee Valley and Raetihi does look to be very much the next cab off the rank in that respect. Another winner over course and distance in recent times, Raetihi has a habit of turning it on when it matters, and it looks very well priced to challenge here at $3.50 with Playup. 

With the Irish contender Montather and the Kiwi chaser Aperitivo also in the mix at $7.50 apiece with Bet365, there are plenty of contenders in this one and it should be a very good watch for the neutral. 

Picking a flagship race here at Moonee Valley is no easy task but the contest in race 9 is the Vobis Gold Carat. A contest for horses aged 3 and under, some of the most exciting prospects in Australian racing are putting it on the line here. 

Ran over a frenetic 1200m and with A$175,000 in the prize pot, this should be a fast and furious penultimate race at Moonee Valley on Saturday. 
 
Vobis Gold Carat Stakes 

Eagled eyed punters will be vehemently attracted to this race, with so many horses for the future to keep an eye on with a whole host of Australian horse racing betting apps. 

It is Peace Treaty that tops the betting, a horse who has won two of its three starts and it will surely benefit from having the prolific Damian Lane on board too. The 1200m trip should be a fantastic fit and it will be the horse to catch in this one at $2.50 with Bet365. 

Next up in the betting is Capulet, one of the more experienced campaigners in this race and another horse who comes into the contest of a win last time out. A 5-month layoff is the key question mark, but it has the potential to challenge here at a very healthy $5.00 with Playup. 

The relative infancy of the field does give hope to punters chasing longer odds shouts here at Moonee Valley and both Flying Mean and Torlaah have seriously strong credentials in a very open race at $7.60 and $10.00 respectively with Punterspal.
