Saturday Racing Tips - Flemington 30/03/24

Few races come as big as the Australia Cup, and it headlines a super day of racing at Flemington.

Saturday’s card at Flemington is awash with huge races and the 4th contest of the day is the Group 3 Breeders Stakes. Ran over 1200m, this should be a real blink and you’ll miss it contest, that will be generating plenty of attention with both punters and Aussie bookmakers. 
With 200k in the prize pool, there is plenty to battle it out for here and it promises to be fast and furious from the outset.

Some of the most exciting 2-year-olds in Australia line up for this one at Flemington and speed will be the name of the game for every horse and jockey in the starting blocks. 


Flemington is never the easiest track to navigate but there are some esteemed runners in this one and it should be a fascinating battle. 
Topping the betting is Ameena, a flyer for the Freedman clan who has won both career starts but will find the extra 200m in this contest a potential challenge. However, Mark Zahra remains one of the best in the business around Flemington and he could guide Ameena to an impressive victory here at $2.30 with Playup. 

Prolific trainer James Cummings is always in the hunt in a race like this and he has lined up the impressive Silmarillion to challenge here, a horse that has looked the part so far, without bagging a win. This should be an excellent contest and Silmarillion should be firmly in the mix at $4.60 with Bet365. 

The inexperience of the rest of the field makes this a very open contest and both Tobeornottobe and Yes Lulu have enough stock to be in contention here at $7.00 and $10.00 respectively with Punterspal.  

The headline act from Flemington on Saturday is the Australia Cup, a Group 1 contest that will be grabbing the attention of both old and new betting sites alike. The Roy Higgins in the penultimate race of the day at Flemington is a race that is cherished within the Australian racing community, with some of the best in the business going at it over 2600m. Once again in 2024, a stellar field is assembled, as they look to get their hands on the very healthy A$500k prize pot.

There is a very international feel to the Roy Higgins Stakes in 2024, with just one of the 13 horses in the field hailing from Australia, which will certainly add to the sense of intrigue and grandeur surrounding the race. 

Irish flyer Glentaneous is the market leader for the Freedman’s and the lightly raced 6-year-old tends to love the longer trips. Damian Lane on board looks to be a very shrewd booking, as he knows his way around Flemington better than most and Glentaneous could be a very popular Irish winner at $4.60 with Bet365. 

Ciaron Maher is having a superb season and he will be looking to train another big race here in the form of Mankayan. This is an experienced horse, who is adept at running in big races and the 2600m trip should suit, making Mankayan one to keep a firm eye on here at $5.00 with Playup.
