Sandown - Race 8 (1400m)
Selections:
#4 Chorlton Lane (BEST BET) - $2.70
#2 Aztec Ruler - $2.80
#7 Torranzino - $15.00
GET ON - #4 Chorlton Lane
Racing from Barrier 1, Chorlton Lane heads into this 1400m Sandown race backed by proven competitive past performances. Out of his 18 career outings, he has secured 6 victories along with 2 runner-ups and 6 third-place finishes. On good tracks, Chorlton Lane has achieved 5 victories from 12 starts, as well as securing one second position and four third-place finishes. Chorlton Lane has built a formidable distance record, which includes five wins over the 1400m trip.
The gelding has demonstrated solid current form with a Randwick third over 1500m last November before securing a 1400m win at Canberra in late November. His December third-place result at Pakenham over 1400m was decent too.
THREAT - #2 Aztec Ruler
Aztec Ruler comes to Sandown from Barrier 5 with seven wins in 22 starts to his name and experience from 4 good track race wins. He demonstrates strong capabilities over 1400m by winning 5 races and finishing second once with two thirds from a total of 11 tries at this distance.
Aztec Ruler aims to use his 2nd finish from Flemington’s 1200m a few weeks ago as a springboard for continued success. During last November, he secured his last success at Ascot over 1400m with a starting barrier of 5 and carrying 57.5kg.
ROUGHIE - #7 Torranzino
Torranzino represents an unpredictable contender. Despite recording just 4 wins in 22 race starts, Torranzino has demonstrated valuable abilities on good tracks where he has won twice. He secured a win at Caulfield while carrying 52kg during the November 2000m race and he ran third at Flemington over 1600m afterward. In three races over 1400m Torranzino has finished second but never clinched a win.
If Torranzino maintains his latest level of form. he stands as a value bet candidate, especially since the 1400m race distance is suitable.
Sandown - Race 9 (1200m)
Selections:
#5 Ndola (BEST BET) - $4.20
#1 Band Of Brothers - $4.20
#8 Judicial - $7.00
GET ON - #5 Ndola - (BEST BET)
Ndola demonstrates excellent potential at Sandown with a winning percentage of 60% and an undefeated top-three record on this track. The runner has achieved three wins out of five starts and has also been successful in both of his three attempts at 1200-metre races. Over 1400m at Sandown-Hillside last September, Ndola topped the race, which indicates his preference for good track conditions.
Luke Currie as jockey has formed a victorious bond with Ndola, they have 3 wins in just 4 starts. Ndola should regain his winning form during this race to extend his exceptional career record.
THREAT - #1 Band Of Brothers
Though Band Of Brothers is new to Sandown, he enters the race having demonstrated strong form and ability to race well at this track. He raced well first-up, finishing 2nd at Geelong. He should be even fitter second-up.
Band Of Brothers has won 2 of its past races with Damian Lane as jockey who will again partner the horse for their upcoming race. He remains winless over 1200 metres but confirmed his potential through a third-place finish at the same distance at Caulfield.
ROUGHIE - #8 Judicial
Judicial has established himself as an intriguing roughie for this race after getting second place at 1200m Cranbourne in January 2025. Judicial achieved victory at Ballarat Synthetic, over 1100m back in June too.
He usually likes good track conditions and Sandown will present nice conditions for him on Saturday.
Race 10 (1200m)
Selections:
#8 Sunshineinmypocket (BEST BET) - $6.50
#14 Oak Park Rebel - $7.50
#3 Carbonados - $18.00
GET ON - #8 Sunshineinmypocket
Sunshineinmypocket has been impressive in his short career. He kicked off his career with 3 straight wins, increasing in distance by 100m in each. He presents at Sandown for the Maher stable in good condition. He should enjoy running fresh and has had a few trials.
The distance should suit, he has won before over the 1200m trip. He also gets a 2kg advantage with apprentice jockey J Kennedy on board.
THREAT - #14 Oak Park Rebel
Looking for back to back wins. Oak Park Rebel comes off a nice win over 1200m at Murray Bridge on the 11th of this month. Before that, he just finished 2nd at the same track last December over the same trip. He loves this trip with 2 wins from 4 starts, which includes 2 second placings too.
He’s rarely let down punters in his race career with just 5 starts resulting in an 80% place record. I think he can challenge the top runners in this field.
ROUGHIE - #3 Carbonados
A decent roughie in the last at Sandown. He’s coming off a run at this track and that should give him some experience for this race. He ended up running 4th over 1400m. He should enjoy being back to 1200m, where he has won before.
Michael Dee is back in the saddle after the pair picked up a nice win at Pakenham Synthetic last August. Also, comes off winning a jumpout for this race so he offers good value if he can jump well.
