Saturday Racing Tips - Caulfield 24/02/24

The stakes look sky high once more at Caulfield, with a superb card in prospect and there will be a plethora of big bets available with all Aussie bookmakers.

The 4th race of the day at Caulfield promises to be a fascinating one, as some hugely exciting prospects line up for battle here. Ran over 1200m, this should be a fast and furious contest, which is enticing all levels of punter and Aussie bookmaker. With some of the very best 3-year-olds in the country taking part, this promises to be a firecracker of a contest.

Having the prospect of the biggest and best 3-year-olds in the country go head to head always gets pulses racing for fans and this promises to be absolutely no different. With A$200,000 in the prize fund, there is plenty for owners and trainers to get behind too and this should be a fascinating contest. 

Topping the betting is Brave Mead, a Ciaron Maher trained flyer who won over course and distance here at Caulfield last month and everything is pointing towards another strong showing here. The competition is tougher but Brave Mead knows how to win and it looks worth backing $2.80 with Playup. 

Plenty of challengers make up this excellent field at Caulfield and Don Corleone is another class act, who should relish the trip and conditions. Recent showings have been a little slow, but it is an experienced 3-year-old, who has the capability to turn on the style at any stage and it looks to be well worth a shot at $6.00 with Bet365. 

Beyond that, the relative youth within the field could throw up some interesting challengers and both Maharba and Pivot City are two horses who make strong claims in this one and they can be backed at $8.00 and $9.00 respectively with Punterspal.  

The first of two Group 1 offerings at Caulfield on Saturday is the Futurity Stakes in race 7 and the big names are lining up once again, in pursuit of a healthy prize pool. With A$750,000 up for grabs, there is more than just Group 1 prestige at stake here and this is a contest that has long been courted by both punters and old and new betting sites.

Historically, some superb horses have won the Futurity Stakes at Caulfield, and its Group 1 status is a testament to how highly regarded the race is amongst punters and Aussie bookmakers. 

There is a clear favourite in the 2024 incarnation of the race, with prolific winner Mr Brightside lining up once again, as the 6-year-old looks to put as many miles in the legs as possible. Having won last time out, over course and distance here at Caulfield, everything points towards another Mr Brightside win and he is going to take some stopping at $1.50 with Punterspal.  

As with any Group 1 race, the quality of the horses assembled in the race is always extremely high and Attrition is the next horse in the betting market. Returning following a 20-week absence will be the only question mark for connections but Attrition is a quality operator and it will be fascinating to see how it goes here at $8.50 with Playup. 

Elsewhere, two more exciting prospects are in the mix in Nugget and Pericles, with both horses having had near misses at this level before and they can both be backed for glory at $10.00 with Bet365. 

The second Group 1 contest from Caulfield on Saturday is the Blue Diamond Stakes, another flagship race within the Australian calendar and the stakes are sky high for this contest too. With $2 million up for grabs, everybody will be out for a piece of the pie, and this should be a race ran at breakneck speed.

As many punters would imagine, any Group 1 contests with A$2 million in the prize pool always attracts the big names and the Blue Diamond Stakes in 2024 is absolutely no different. 

The openness of the field is best epitomised by market leader Coleman, a horse that has been hugely impressive in its only two career rides so far and who looks to be made for a contest such as this. Taking the step up to a Group 1 win would be notable but Coleman is an excellent horse, who will be firmly in the mix from the outset here at $4.20 with Bet365. 

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott team up for the next horse in the betting, with Lady of Camelot ready to show her worth on this big stage. A recent win at Rosehill Gardens was hugely impressive and Lady of Camelot looks to be sneaking under the radar here at $4.80 with Playup. 

The big names continue to make claims here and both Bodyguard and High Octane are surely worth keeping an eye on and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see either win here at $7.70 and $8.50 respectively with Punterspal.
