Saturday Racing Tips - The Thousand Guineas 18/11/23

Caulfield will be at the centre of attention with Aussie bookmakers and punters on Saturday, as the Thousand Guineas headlines a stellar 10-race meeting.

The big-name contests at Caulfield on Saturday are plentiful and the Blue Sapphire Stakes has certainly caught the eye of punters and Aussie bookmakers alike. 
 
Ran over just 1400m, the Group 3 contest is a real speedy dash but with half a million dollars in the prize pot, there is plenty for connections to get on board with in this one.

Any race of this calibre is always going to be hotly contested and the 2023 Blue Sapphire Stakes has some of the most exciting 3-year-olds in the business in the mix. 

Whilst there are plenty of horses with strong claims, it is the exciting Arkansaw Kid that catches the eye the most within the betting ring. 

Running out of the prolific Hayes yard and with the even more notorious Damien Oliver on board, Arkansaw Kid is certainly being given the star treatment and it is the favourite to deliver at $2.60 with Playup. 
 
The quality of this race is exemplified by the next horses in the betting, with the hugely impressive Brave Mead next up in the price list. With Melbourne Cup winning jockey Mark Zahra on board, it looks to be a horse tailormade for this type of trip, with a recent 3rd at Flemington a real tick in the box for connections. 

Whether it will have enough to go all the way remains to be seen but Brave Mead looks to be in with a decent shout at $4.00 with Bet365. 
 
Two more excellent horses make up the front runners for the Blue Sapphire Stakes here, only adding to the sense of intrigue surrounding the race. 

Both Snapback and The Instructor are experienced horses for their age and they should both be up for the contest here at $6.50 and $7.00 respectively with Punterspal.  

The biggest race on the card at Caulfield this weekend is the Thousand Guineas, one of the oldest and most prestigious races on the Australian calendar. A contest that needs no introduction with old or new betting sites alike, this Group 1 epic should be a fantastic watch on Saturday.  
 
Ran over 1600m, the Thousand Guineas has long been a yard stick for punters and connections as to the suitability of each horse moving forward and with a hearty A$1.5 million in the prize pot, it is a contest that is worth winning.

Pace will be very much the order of the day here in the Thousand Guineas and a quick scan down the field informs punters that this should be a breakneck contest. 

Topping the betting is the highly rated Skybird, a horse that has only tasted victory in its 3 previous career outings and it looks ready to challenge in one of the biggest races of the season. 

Inexperience at this level is the question mark but it looks to be a special horse and Skybird is the hot favourite at $3.80 with Punterspal.  

Kiwi flyer Coeur Volante is another horse that has long been tipped for greatness and the Thousand Guineas will present exactly that chance to connections. An impressive win over 1400m at Caulfield less than a month ago had punters purring and a repeat performance would make things interesting here. 

This should be a great contest and Coeur Volante looks set to play an important role at $4.00 with Playup. 

Claims can be made for plenty more horses in the field, with the reputable Joliestar and Kimochi both well versed in races such as this for their tender ages. Catching the two above them in the betting will be the challenge for Joliestar and Kimochi but they are both very capable at $7.50 and $10.00 respectively with Bet365. 

The Group 1 racing just continues to pour in at Caulfield, with the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes attracting another impressive field in 2023. Ran over 1400m, it promises to be yet another madcap dash but with some of the quickest horses around in the mix, it should be fascinating viewing.

With A$1 million in the prize pot for this one, there is plenty at stake for connections in the 2023 Rupert Clarke Stakes. 
 
The open nature of the field is belied a little by the odds being enjoyed by Magic Time at the top of the betting market. It has been lightly raced for a 4-year-old, especially in comparison to the rest of the field but some very good showings of late, particularly in more esteemed company, have pushed bookies to believe it is the real deal. 

Whilst it won’t have things all its own way, Magic Time does look to be the standout offering at $3.80 with Bet365. 
 
Finding value in the field isn’t a tricky task in this one, with I Am Me making excellent claims from within the betting ring. The 5-year-old has seriously been around the block, but it is a horse that knows what it takes to win big races and it should be firmly in the mix here at $8.50 with Playup. 
 
Elsewhere, the rest of the field could feasibly find itself in contention here, at relatively long odds but both Vilana and Ayrton perhaps look to be the pick of the bunch. Things would have to go their way, but they are both in contention at $10.00 apiece with Punterspal.
