Saturday Racing Tips - Flemington 18/05/24

Flemington hosts another super card of racing, with 10 enthralling contests on the agenda on Saturday 18th May.

The big races hit the card from the outset at Flemington on Saturday and whilst race 3 is in theory, only a BM78 Handicap for fillies and mares, there are a whole host of big-name jockeys and trainers chasing glory here. With an eclectic mix of horses in the field, it looks to be one of the more open contests of a packed day and there looks to be something on offer for all punters and Aussie bookmakers. 

Inside Headquarters Stakes 

A glance down the card would give all punters hope of finding value here in race 3, with some of the most intriguing 4-year-olds in Victorian and Australian racing lining up to do battle at Flemington. 

Whilst there looks to be plenty who could challenge, it is Niance who tops the betting, a Kiwi speedster for Graeme Begg, who knows their way both around Flemington and to the finish line. Niance has won 3 of 7 career outings, with 2 of those victories coming at Flemington and whilst this is a tough field to compete in. Niance is the one to beat here at $3.00 with Playup. 

A similar story can be told for Wakanjeja, another horse who has picked up wins in its fledgling career, but the lack of consistency can keep punters guessing to an extent. A solid showing over a similar distance at Caulfield a couple of weeks ago should do it good and Wakanjeja certainly represents decent value here at $4.20 with Bet365. 

This is a very tough race to call, with so many decent horses more than in with a shout at this level, but both Fearless Writer and Paradise City know how to compete in a race like this and they are both worth a look at $10.00 and $12.00 respectively with Punterspal.  

The headline race of the day at Flemington is the Andrew Ramsden Stakes and ran over 2800m, it promises to be a real war of attrition, between some of the very best stayers around. With an impressive A$500,000 in the prize pool, there are plenty of big names involved in this race and there are huge punting chances out there, for both old and new betting sites alike.

This should be a fascinating battle at Flemington, with the 2800m trip sure to cut the wheat from the chaff. With such variety on the race card too, there is something out there for all levels of punter and Aussie bookmakers, with plenty of value sure to be found across the betting markets. 
Most bookies have installed The Map as the favourite for this one, a prolific horse over longer distances of late and with the equally as dogmatic Damian Lane on board, it looks to be a fearsome combination. Avoiding trouble throughout the course of the 2800m contest will be key but The Map is a solid campaigner, and it will be a tough one to beat at $2.90 with Punterspal.  

Ciaron Maher looks to have his house in order again this season and his British recruit Lionel looks to be a very good fit for this one here at Flemington. The course and distance should suit him and whilst it will be tough to beat The Map, Lionel is certainly one to keep an eye on here at $6.50 with Playup. 

Similar claims can be made for Strawberry Rock and Mostly Cloudy, two more quality horses and they have strong outside claims at $8.50 apiece with Bet365. 

The penultimate race of the day here at Flemington is an intriguing one, with some very high-quality horses looking to put miles in the legs in this handicap chase. Ran over 1600m, this looks to be the perfect opportunity for some excellent horses to get up and running for the winter ahead and it should be an enthralling contest at Flemington. 
 
L.V Lachal Stakes 

A very strong field has been assembled here for the L.V Lachal Stakes and whilst the A$100,000 prize pot doesn’t jump off the page, the number of quality horses in contention certainly does. 
Green Fly is the market leader, a British horse who has been churning out the results in both Australia and his native UK for a few seasons now. Back-to-back wins have propelled Green Fly to the top of the betting here and it is a horse full of confidence, making it a decent looking bet at $5.00 with Bet365. 

Beyond Green Fly, there are heaps of horses in the betting that represent value and El Soleado is very much one of them. Another horse that knows how to win races and get the job done, El Soleado is certainly one to keep an eye on, at a healthy $7.00 with Playup. 

Excellent prices can be found on plenty of horses here, with both Dashing and Munhamek knowing their way around Flemington very well and they both look to represent superb value at $7.00 and $12.00 respectively with Punterspal.
