Saturday Racing Tips – 16/09/23

September is very much upon us, and the 2023 Australian racing season calendar is ticking along nicely, with the Group 1 Makybe Diva Stakes from Flemington a marked contest in the season.

Flemington is always a hotly contested course at this time of year, with build up to the Melbourne Cup very much on the agenda and this 10-race Saturday card is creating plenty of traction with the biggest and best Aussie bookmakers.

The halfway point of a packed card at Flemington is marked with an intriguing battle in the Exford Plate. The race for 3-year-olds is often a breeding ground of talent for the future and there is plenty on the line with $175,000 in the prize pool.

There are plenty of exciting picks in the 2023 Exford Plate at Flemington, with punters spoilt for choice in some regards with betting apps, such is the quality of the field. 

Topping the ante-post market betting is Legacies, a lightning quick 3-year-old who looks to have a huge future ahead of it.

Introducing is a speedy horse that has had a fair few career outings for its tender age. Finishing 4th at Moonee Valley a couple of weeks ago wasn’t in the script but it remains a promising horse and it should be firmly in the mix at $8.50 with Bet365.

In a similar vein, there are two other stand out picks in the Exford Plate field, who could feature in the running here. Griff and Mojave Desert come from seriously strong yards and they do both look to have outside shots at $8.50 and $11.00 respectively with Punterspal.

Seven of the biggest horses in the country have been declared for the 2023 Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington and it promises to be an epic battle which captures the imagination of old and new betting sites alike.

A cool A$750,000 is in the prize pot for connections and with so much at stake on and off the track, it promises to be a fantastic watch for the neutral at Flemington.

Each horse racing season in Australia is given marker posts and for many punters and Aussie bookmakers, the Makybe Diva Stakes is a real line in the sand. The season is up and running and the best horses of the season ahead are starting to come to the fore.

Claims can seriously be made for every other horse in this field, and it is testament to the quality of the race that the likes of Princess Grace and Osipenko are seen as outsiders at $4.65 and $12.20 respectively – both with Bet365. Both horses have bagged big group 1 wins in their careers, and they cannot be discarded. 

The high stakes races continue to come in thick and fast at Flemington on Saturday, with the Group 2 Bobbie Lewis Quality Stakes the penultimate offering on the card.

With A$300,000 in the mix and an array of top-quality horses chasing prize money and race wins, it should be another superb battle from Flemington.

Bobbie Lewis Quality Stakes 

Few horses can compete with Benedetta in the 2023 season when to comes to collecting race wins and the incredible stat of finishing in the places in every career start is a serious tick in the box heading into this one.

Connections have looked to lightly race the 4-year-old and picking and choosing the contests carefully looks to be paying dividends so far.

At $2.55, Benedetta is the rightful favourite for this one with Bet365, and it will take some stopping. 

The aforementioned strength of the field is underlined by the next horse in the betting, Star Patrol. A 5-year-old with 14 career races, Star Patrol knows what it’s all about at this level and it should be ready to push Benedetta all the way in this one.

Results in 2023 haven’t been what owners and trainers would have wanted but Star Patrol is a prolific performer, at Flemington in particular and it should be firmly in the mix at $4.85 with Playup.

Claims can be made for plenty of horses in the Bobbie Lewis Quality Stakes but none more so than for King of Sparta and Najem Suhail. Both horses have won this season and are in the habit of pushing over the line in front and at $7.50 and $10.00 respectively, both horses have more than outside shouts with Punterspal.
