Saturday Racing Tips - Flemington 11/11/23

The final day of the Melbourne Festival should be another classic, with 9 races on the card and there is plenty of punters to get behind with the biggest Aussie bookmakers at Flemington on Saturday.

Some of the most exciting young prospects in Australian racing line up in race 6 at Flemington, with the Darley Champions Sprint generating plenty of attention with punters and Aussie bookmakers alike. 
 
A madcap dash, the Champions Sprint is raced over 1200m and with A$3 million in the prize pot for this Group 1 contest, it should be frenetic from the outset. 
 
Darley Champions Sprint 

Eleven of the quickest horses in the business line up for the Darley Champions Sprint at Flemington in 2023, in what should be one of the most exciting races on the final day of the festival. 

Whilst there are plenty with strong claims, no horse has looked the part as much as Imperatriz has in the past few weeks, with the 5-year-old seemingly going from strength to strength with every challenge faced. 

Winning all four of the last outings, as well as 16 career wins from 22 starts, the credentials and consistency being demonstrated by Imperatriz are unparalleled. 

This is a big race on the calendar and Imperatriz is very much the horse to beat at 
$2.10 with Playup. 
 
Such is the quality of this contest that there are plenty of other horses that could challenge here and In Secret does look to be the best placed to have a real go. James Cummings and James McDonald team up and should they get a free run here they could be difficult to stop at $4.40 with Bet365. 
 
Two more flyers will also be looking to beat the bookies in this one, with Asfoora and Bella Nipotina primed and ready to challenge. Both horses enjoyed excellent wins last time out, over similar distances and whilst Imperatriz is a real speedster, they are not without chances at $10.00 and $12.00 respectively with Punterspal.  

Arguably the headline act on a busy Saturday of racing at Flemington is the Champions Mile in race 7. Another group 1 contest, the Champions Mile has some of the most impressive horses of the year in the field and it has caught the eye with both old and new betting sites alike.  
 
Ran over 1600m, this will be a reduction in trip for plenty of horses in the field, meaning jockey stewardship will play an essential role in the outcome of this one, with a healthy A$3 million on the line. 
 
Kennedy Champions Mile 

In a race populated by some of the biggest runners and riders from the Cox Plate last month, it is Fangirl who is most fancied by the bookmakers for the shorter 1600m offering here at Flemington. Trainer Chris Waller has enjoyed an excellent week at this track so far and with Fangirl being a horse that is known for her adaptability, she could be a very tough horse to stop at $2.60 with Punterspal.  

Next in line is the very impressive Mr Brightside, a horse that was desperately unlucky not to clinch Cox Plate glory last time out, having been pipped on the line by Romantic Warrior. 
Whilst 1600m doesn’t seem the natural fit, Mr Brightside is another horse that has plenty in reserve speed wise and it should be firmly in the mix in this one at $2.90 with Playup. 

This one does look to be a proverbial three horse race, with Alligator Blood completing the highlights on the betting card, another horse that has produced some excellent results in 2023 and it should also be firmly in contention for this one at $3.50 with Bet365. 

Yet another high-quality contest is in prospect in race 8, with the TAB Champions Stakes pitting some of the best in the business against each other over 2000m. The final Group 1 race of the festival should be a celebratory affair and there are a whole host of big-name rides in contention in this one.  
 
TAB Champions Stakes 
 
There is another A$3 million prize pot on the line here in the TAB Champions Stakes, a huge draw for punters, jockeys, and trainers alike. 

Ran over 2000m, the TAB Champions Stakes is often a breeding ground of sorts for some of the biggest up and coming horses around. 
 
Topping the betting and making some serious claims from the off is West Wind Blows, an Irish flyer that has taken to life in Australia with ease. Placing in its last 10 outings and managing to get over the line twice, West Wind Blows is a frequent front runner and it should be the horse to beat in this one at $2.60 with Bet365. 
 
Kiwi flyer Prowess is the next cab on the rank, having won so impressively in the Crystal Mile last time out – a performance that really made people stand up and take note. Question marks do exist over the distance but with 6 wins from its last 7 starts, Prowess could tear it up here at $6.00 with Playup. 
 
There are plenty of other big name horses in contention here in the Champions Stakes, with both Duais and Zaaki having performed prolifically at this level previously. Both horses will need to rediscover some form to prevail here, but they look decent bets at $7.00 apiece with Punterspal.
