Saturday Racing Tips - Randwick 03/03/24

Randwick will play host to an excellent day of racing, with the Verry Elleegant Stakes headlining the card all Aussie bookmakers.

By the time that the 4th race of the day at Randwick swings around, the running should be very clear for all on the track and this promises to be a fascinating contest. Having a runaway favourite always sets up the narrative interestingly for punters and Aussie bookmakers but this will be no forgone conclusion over 1200m, with some excellent horses in the mix..

Some of the hottest speedsters in New South Wales and beyond line up here at Randwick, with A$300,000 up for grabs in what should be a compelling Group 2 contest. 

All eyes in the betting ring turn towards Storm Boy, a horse with bags of potential and having made the switch over from Western Australia, there are high hopes that Storm Boy can go on to be a generational horse for Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. 

Obviously, coping with expectation will be the first challenge here but Storm Boy is the undoubted horse to beat in this one at $1.30 with Playup. 

In behind in the betting is Prost, another quality horse that will be bang up for the challenge of racing against his yard mate. Obviously, surpassing Storm Boy is a tall order, but Prost is a quality performer, who will be ready to pounce on any mistakes out in front and it looks well priced at $6.50 with Bet365. 

Racing for places looks to be the order of the day for the remainder of the field and both Parkour and Duvana will be looking to put decent miles in the legs and challenge here at $11.00 and $14.00 respectively with Punterspal.  

In the week where the great Verry Elleegant has sadly passed away, how fitting it is that the Group 1 contest here at Randwick is named after the legendary mare. Group 1 contests always get old and new betting sites purring and this promises to be a fascinating contest, even if there is a hot front runner in the betting ring once again.

A quick glance down the card is hugely interesting for all punters and Aussie bookmakers, with some superb horses in the field, all chasing a scoop of the A$1 million prize money on offer here at Randwick. 

The clear favourite in race however is Fangirl, the Chris Waller trained 5-year-old who has long been prolific for connections and who comes into this one fresh off the back of some excellent wins in recent times. Conditions should suit here at Randwick and Fangirl will take some stopping at $1.55 with Punterspal.  

The key players lineup in pursuit, all hoping to pick up some Group 1 success and Just Fine looks to be the pick of the bunch for punters chasing value. The Irish trained 6-year-old has been in fine fettle over the past 12 months and it cannot be completely discarded here at $7.00 with Playup. 

With such a strong favourite in Fangirl, seldom do punters have the chance to pick up such value in a Group 1 contest but both Think It Over and Buckaroo are not too well-fancied by bookmakers in this one but they could both feature in at least the places at $8.50 and $10.00 respectively with Bet365. 

There is no letup in the Group 1 offerings at Randwick on Saturday and the Drinkwise Surround Stakes promises to be an epic battle over 1400m. With a cool $750,000 in the prize fund, there is plenty for jockeys and trainers to get on board with here and this should be a fascinating contest.

This is arguably the standout field of the day here at Randwick, with very little to split some fantastic horses in the betting ring. Key players will also see this as a chance to put important miles in the legs, with busy Autumn ahead for many yards. 

Topping the betting is Learning To Fly, a horse that has long promised to deliver on the biggest stage and now aged 3, looks absolutely primed and ready for a contest with the prestige of this. Inexperience is the only question mark but it looks to be the horse to catch in terms of speed at $3.20 with Bet365. 

Plenty of interesting horses also feature in the betting ring here, with Kimochi a fascinating prospect, having won so impressively at Randwick last time out. Obviously, this is a step up in quality, but Kimochi looks to be one to keep a firm eye on at $6.50 with Playup. 

A quick scour through the packed card can point punters straight to some excellent value picks and both Arctic Glamour and Kristilli look to be worth a look at $18.00 and $19.00 respectively with Punterspal.
