EPL 2024/25 Matchweek 23

The EPL 2024-25 season continues this weekend with ten games across two days, and with plenty of competition at both ends of the table, there is plenty on the line in most games. The highlight of the weekend undoubtedly comes when Manchester City hosts Chelsea, while elsewhere, Bournemouth takes on Nottingham Forest in what looms as a surprisingly entertaining game, and Liverpool gets a chance to extend their lead at the top when they host Ipswich Town. Take a look at our EPL tips and predictions for all ten games below.

Matchweek 23 Fixtures

Brighton and Hove Albion vs Everton

American Express Stadium, Sunday 26th of January, 2am AEDT

Brighton have been in a good vein of form over the last couple of weeks, and that continued in their last game against Manchester United. It took until the 60th minute for them to break a 1-1 deadlock, but they ended up 3-1 winners to make it three wins on the trot across the EPL and FA Cup and a 9-1 aggregate in that time, with that victory moved them to within just 4 points of the top five.

Everton, meanwhile, had a great win of their own, giving themselves a nice buffer from the relegation zone with an unexpected 3-2 win over Tottenham. They very nearly blew it, conceding two goals in the last 15 minutes to give the Hotspur a chance, but having won just four games all year they will take what they can get. Impressive as that win was, however, Brighton are playing well at the moment and should be able to continue their march up the Premier League standings with another win.

Liverpool vs Ipswich Town

Anfield, Sunday 26th of January, 2am AEDT

The good times keep on rolling for Liverpool, and that is not likely to change this weekend. They returned to the winners’ list last weekend after a couple of draws, beating Brentford 2-0 to maintain a 6-point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand. Goal difference may not be relevant for them come season’s end, but they have the best in the league and a great chance to extend that lead further this weekend against a team coming off a dreadful loss.

Ipswich Town are struggling in the top division, but last weekend’s performance was particularly bad. They held on for 25 minutes or so against Man City, but once that first goal found the back of the net the floodgates opened, the final result a 6-0 drubbing on their home deck. Things do not get any easier this weekend, and Ipswich Town is likely in for another pummelling at the hands of the best team in the business.

Southampton vs Newcastle

St. Mary’s Stadium, Sunday 26th of January, 2am AEDT

Southampton’s woes continued last weekend, with a 3-2 final scoreline against Nottingham Forest probably flattering them and handing them their fifth consecutive loss. They have not won a Premier League game since the beginning of November and find themselves squarely on the bottom of the table, and not much is likely to change this weekend.

Newcastle have put themselves in a great position to compete for a spot in either the Champions League or at least the Europa League this season, though a 4-1 loss to Bournemouth last weekend did not help their cause. In contrast to Southampton, that scoreboard looked worse than it was, with two extra time goals to Bournemouth blowing out the margin. Still, it was a disappointing loss, but Newcastle has an opportunity to bounce straight back with an easy win.

Wolverhampton vs Arsenal

Molineux Stadium, Sunday 26th of January, 2am AEDT

This is another lopsided looking matchup, with the 17th placed Wolves hosting an Arsenal team which sits behind only Liverpool. Wolverhampton has had three consecutive losses to start 2025, their latest a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Chelsea, and it does not get any easier this weekend.

Arsenal have not lost a Premier League game since the 2nd of November, nor can they afford to if they want to chase down the Reds. But they will be reeling from their 2-2 draw to Aston Villa last weekend given they had a two-goal lead with 30 minutes of regular time left, and the Wolves look like a good opposition to take that frustration out on. This should be a multiple-goal win to the Gunners, and that result looks like one of the better value EPL tips for the weekend – with Bet365 offering up some of the best odds.

Bournemouth vs Nottingham Forest

Vitality Stadium, Sunday 26th of January, 2am AEDT

Bournemouth have been really impressive so far this season, and that continued last weekend with a resounding 4-1 victory over Newcastle – though as mentioned, that margin did balloon out late. Justin Kluivert kept his great season going with a hattrick, but he nor his teammates will not likely score quite so easily this weekend.

Nottingham Forest have conceded just 22 goals in their 22 games in season 2024-25, though after four consecutive clean sheets they have let through three in their last couple of games. Still, it hasn’t mattered too much – the first of those was a 1-1 draw against Liverpool and the second a 3-2 win over Southampton. Two games behind Liverpool, they need to be winning most weeks to keep themselves in the hunt, but this won’t be an easy game. Bournemouth have lost just two games at home this season, and while they will have a hard time beating Nottingham Forest, they can split the points in a quality game.

Manchester City vs Chelsea

Etihad Stadium, Sunday 26th of January, 4.30am AEDT

This looms as the match of the round, with two teams trying to secure Champions League spots and even potentially get themselves in the race for the Premier League title if Liverpool slips up going head to head at Etihad Stadium. Man City have had a couple of big wins of late, the latest a 6-0 win over Ipswich Town. But this week’s matchup will be a different story.

Chelsea, as we know, have gone from title hopefuls to just hanging on to a spot in the top five in the matter of just a few weeks, but they finally found their way back onto the winners’ list with a 3-1 win over the Wolves earlier in the week. Injuries have certainly played a role in their issues as they did last season, but that victory was a big step in the right direction. This should be a fantastic game between two really good teams, and is one of the tougher EPL predictions this week. It’s hard to imagine the margin being more than a goal either way, and a draw looks like the way to go here.

Tottenham vs Leicester City

Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Monday 27th of January, 1am AEDT

Australia’s favourite coach is under the pump at the moment, with Ange Postecoglou’s Spurs having picked up just a solitary point from their last six Premier League games. Not good, and they’ve drifted all the way down to 15th as a result. But this weekend offers them a great chance to finally get back to their winning ways, because Leicester City is one of the few teams travelling even worse.

They have lost seven games on the trot, with a woeful 18-2 aggregate score in that time. They are now locked firmly in the relegation zone, though just 2 points behind the Wolves in 17th they could easily get themselves out of it with a win. But it’s very hard to see where that will come from given how they have been playing. Even considering Tottenham’s recent form, this should be a win for the home team.

Crystal Palace vs Brentford

Selhurt Park Stadium, Monday 27th of January, 1am AEDT

Crystal Palace remained undefeated in 2025 last weekend with a 2-0 win over West Ham, giving them a third win to go with two draws in their last five games. They have climbed to 12th as a result, and can jump a spot further with another win this week against the team sitting immediately above them in Brentford.

Brentford have been pretty consistent through the course of the year in their results, generally unable to match it with the top sides but doing what they should do against the bottom feeders. They have already beaten Crystal Palace this season, but the Eagles are playing a lot better now and on their home turf will be tough to beat. This should be a tight game, but the home side might just be able to sneak over the line.

Aston Villa vs West Ham

Villa Park, Monday 27th of January, 3.30am AEDT

Aston Villa have enjoyed a solid recent run of form, and continued that with a 2-2 draw against 2nd placed Arsenal last weekend. They were up against it down 2-0 in that game, but fought back strongly in the final half an hour to tie things up and make it four consecutive games without a loss. They will be backing themselves to continue that run this weekend.

West Ham are, as usual, stuck in purgatory, with a solid buffer over the relegation zone but not good enough to challenge for a particularly high spot. Three losses in their last four games have seen them tumble a little down to 14th, however, and they may well be in for another loss this weekend. Aston Villa have been great at home all year, with their 6-4-1 record at Villa Park the fourth best home record in the league, and against a thoroughly mediocre West Ham they should be able to notch up another win.

Fulham vs Manchester United

Craven Cottage, Monday 27th of January, 6am AEDT

It’s not often that Fulham would enter a game against Manchester United favoured to win, but here we are. Of course, that’s more to do with the woes of Man U than anything Fulham have done. They are a solid team, sitting smack bang in the middle of the EPL table and coming off a 2-0 win over Leicester City, but Man United are struggling.

After yet another loss last weekend, this one 3-1 at the hands of Brighton, the mighty have fallen even further down to 13th having won just seven of their 22 games this season. It’s hard to know where the motivation for a team so accustomed to success will come for the remainder of the season, but this is a game they should give themselves a chance in. It could really go either way, but Fulham have made a habit out of securing draws this season and particularly of late, and this may well be another one.
