English Premier League 2023/24 Matchweek 38 – Betting tips & Predictions
Will Manchester City or Arsenal lift the 2023/24 EPL title?
Will Manchester City or Arsenal lift the 2023/24 EPL title?
The English Premier League is the biggest domestic football (or soccer, depending where you come from) league in the world, with billions of people around the globe keeping at the very least a passing eye on it – and more often a whole lot more than that. This invariably makes it a popular sport to bet on, too.
Most Australian betting sites offer a massive range of EPL betting markets, from basics like line and outright bets, through to futures and player props. With so many different options there is plenty to think about when betting on the EPL, and at MyBettingAustralia we hope to simplify the process with our weekly EPL predictions as well as a bunch of analysis throughout the course of the season. Below, we outline everything that you need to know about betting on the EPL, and how what we offer can help you out.
There are an incredible number of different betting sites in Australia, and you would be hard-pressed to find one that doesn’t offer at the very least a basic selection of EPL betting markets. If a betting site offers more than just racing markets, you can be sure that one of the first leagues on their list will be the EPL, and generally EPL games are one of the more well-catered for in terms of range of markets.
That does not mean that every betting site will have every betting market that you can think of for this popular league. Some of the smaller and new betting sites will still have just a fairly limited range of EPL markets, with things like line bets, moneyline and number of goals scored the focal point of their offerings.
But plenty of others will offer so much more than that. The bigger betting sites will have hundreds upon hundreds of markets for every EPL game throughout the course of the season, from what the score will be at half-time to how many goals, if any, individual players will score.
Obviously this breadth of markets is one of the main things that we consider when deciding upon which are the best EPL betting sites, but it’s not all. Odds, too, clearly play a significant role – particularly for the less common markets like player props, the value available with different betting sites can be pretty different, so it’s important to shop around to make sure you’re getting the best, or close to the best, odds available.
Which is the best EPL betting site to use can obviously vary a bit depending on what it is you’re betting on, but below, we’ve tried to make the process a little easier for you by outlining some of the sites which typically have the best range of EPL markets, and the best odds.
PlayUp has been chugging along for a while now, having entered the sports betting industry back in 2017. In that time they have developed into a reliable betting site with decent odds, a good range of markets and a great app, and this all makes them one of the better EPL betting sites going around. Check out our PlayUp review for more info.
If you want to bet with a global betting giant, then Bet365 might be the way to go. They are known for their incredible array of markets and market leading odds, and with hundreds upon hundreds of markets for every single EPL game, they are a great choice when it comes to EPL betting.
PalmerBet is another really solid betting site, even if they don’t get the recognition of some of the other experienced sites. They do a lot of things really well, are one of the better NRL betting sites and AFL betting sites, and from an EPL perspective you will find a lot of markets on every game, as well as some really good odds.
TopSport is another long-standing betting market, and while they too don’t have the recognition of a site like Bet365, there is plenty to like about them. They won’t have quite the range of markets as some of their counterparts, but there is still plenty of EPL markets to sink your teeth into, some solid odds and decent some of the better betting sites bonuses.
QuestBet has not been around for nearly as long as the above few sites – in fact they are one of the myriad new betting sites that has popped up in recent years – but they have quickly established themselves as one of the better new bookies going around. They have a good selection of markets on every EPL game and solid odds, as well as an excellent website and one of the better betting apps you’ll find.
PickleBet might have started as a betting site specialising in eSports, but they are a whole lot more than that now. They actually have a really excellent range of different markets for lots of leagues, and the EPL is included among that. Plus, with great odds to boot, this is one of your better options when it comes to EPL betting.
During the EPL season, you’ll find plenty of predictions for the Premier League on our site. We provide a weekly piece with a range of tips, so if you’re looking for EPL predictions this week, or even EPL predictions today, then you know where to find them.
In these pieces we cover each and every game, giving not just EPL tips, but also the odds that you’ll get for the recommended markets at different betting sites, as well as a brief rundown of our thoughts and how we came to reach our predictions. We also list the predicted teams for each game.
What’s more, prior to the weekend you will find our EPL multi tip for the weekend. In these, we pick a couple of our favourite bets for the weekend’s action and package them up into one, single value-packed bet.
Betting aside, we also provide further insights on the EPL through our expert analysis articles. These cover, in detail, one or multiple of the key talking points at that point in the EPL season, talking about anything from why one particular team is overperforming or underperforming, to how personnel changes might affect a team going forward, and plenty more.
Our Premier League experts have been following the game of football, soccer, or whatever you want to call it for a lifetime, and with England the home of a large proportion of the world’s best players, that love for the game has always extended to a love for the EPL.
That means that our experts have knowledge about the game in spades, and they use this to make their tips as well informed as possible. Of course, the bookies also know the game as well as anyone and have data to fall back on coming out of their you know what, so being able to consistently able to find value is no mean feat.
But while we won’t always be right, what we can guarantee is that our EPL tips will always be backed by a whole lot of knowledge, and a whole lot of research. We follow the season as closely as possible throughout, dishing out tips every week for the myriad games played in the best football league in the world each and every week.
These EPL tips don’t come from nowhere. We do a lot of research before putting them out, considering a whole range of different factors to come up with what we think are some pretty decent EPL predictions. Below, we take a look in more detail at the various things we take into account before making our predictions for Premier League.
While we would all love to think that our ‘gut feel’ is as good as anyone and we can simply bank on that to make good EPL tips, it’s always a good idea to have a bit of data and empirical information to back it up. These are some of the main factors we consider when researching for our EPL predictions and tips.
This is a pretty obvious one, and something that we’d consider regardless of the sport or league that we were betting on. Form clearly plays a vital role in game outcome, both long-term and short-term form.
When we talk about form from a longer term perspective, really we’re just talking about the quality of a team – how a side has been playing all season long. But within any given season, teams obviously go through ups and downs.
So rather than just looking at where a team sits in the standing, we take a look at more recent form too. Maybe a team is sitting in top four but has been playing underwhelmingly of late. Alternatively, perhaps a lower team has been a little plucky lately and been taking it to some much better teams. This is something that we dive into in detail before suggesting any EPL tips.
Travelling plays a big role in the EPL as it does in many leagues, so it’s important to take into account both how the home team generally performs on their home turf, as well as how the away team typically travels.
Every team would prefer to play at home, but some seem to have a much bigger advantage on their home turf. The reason for this is anyone’s guess – a hostile atmosphere for opposition, comfortability that comes with playing where you train, the fact that the opponent has had to travel. All of these probably play a role, but it doesn’t always result in the same level of advantage, with some teams home grounds a real fortress and others a lot less imposing.
Equally, some teams don’t seem too bothered by travelling, while others can’t seem to buy points away from home. You should also consider performance of the away teams at that specific. Sometimes teams might have either a very strong or very weak record at a particular ground, and if that trend is significant enough it can certainly impact their psyche and be something worth considering.
This is where a healthy dose of football knowledge really plays a role. Predicting how a game will play out isn’t simply a matter of knowing how the two teams involved have been playing. The way that they match up with one another is also pivotally important.
Every team has weaknesses and strengths, and sometimes these result in a specific matchup that is advantageous to one particular team. Is one team weak defensively down the left side while the other tends to excel attacking from the right? Understanding factors like this can give you a greater understanding of how a game might play out, and are a good way to sneak a little edge over the bookies.
Most teams don’t really have all that much of a relevant history against one another to consider, but sometimes there will be a matchup in which one team has had the upper hand for so long that it’s hard to imagine it not having an influence on the respective mindsets of both teams.
This can particularly be the case in significant games like derbies. Take the North London Derby between Arsenal and Tottenham, for example. The Hotspur haven’t won at Emirates Stadium since way back in 2010, and have lost their last three at their home too – that while being a pretty competitive team. There is no denying that the players are well aware of such a history, and while it won’t be the sole determinant of the result it can certainly play a role.
Finally, to something that we discuss and consider for virtually every league – game relevance. This is particularly important in the EPL, in which there are a raft of teams in the middle section of the ladder for whom a pretty large portion of the back half of the season can be largely irrelevant.
These teams are obviously not going to win the league or make the Champions League, but equally they will not be relegated. This version of football purgatory can undeniably make it difficult to stay motivated – certainly as motivated as a team that might be directly motivated by one of the aforementioned factors. When developing our EPL tips and predictions, we always know exactly what each team has to play for.
For the English Premier League, we put out tips at the beginning of each week, covering every game set to take place during that matchweek. We will also put out multi bets prior to the weekend, with these ones honing in on generally three specific markets in which we think there is good value, and combining these markets together to get some more value.
Every week, we provide EPL tips and predictions for each and every game, and combined with our EPL weekend multi there is no shortage of tips that you can follow directly. If you’re not particularly well-versed in the EPL (or you just really trust us!) then this can be a good option, but obviously there is no obligation or you to do this.
Alternatively, you can simply use our tips and analysis to inform your own bets. This is where the insights that we provide that go alongside our bets come in handy. Rather than simply jotting down the bets, we explain why we think what we think, so if you already fancy yourself as an EPL savant, then you can simply use the intel that we provide as an added layer of research.
The EPL has been around for a long, long time, so there has been plenty of time for historical trends to develop. Of course, trends are not all made equal and there is plenty of data that doesn’t really have any necessarily be scrutinised. Past history between two teams, for example, might be relevant, but only to a point – what happened 15 years ago between these sides isn’t likely to have much impact on today’s EPL predictions given probably none of the same personnel are at either club. What happened over the past five years, however, might be a little more relevant.
These kind of past performances and trends can be very useful, but equally they can be useless or even worse, misleading. As important as it is to know where and how to find your data, it’s equally important to know which parts of that information is pertinent in your EPL tipping, and our experts are well-versed at pinpointing the most relevant historical information and trends to formulate relevant, research-oriented tips.
As much as individual match betting is always going to be the most common type of betting for any sporting league – EPL included – futures betting is another which is always worth having a look at. Of course, matchday bets allow you to have a punt each and every day on which there are games, potentially multiple bets, so these will always be popular.
Futures, however, enable you to zero in on the season as a whole, and potentially put on one individual bet which you can ride for many months. For the EPL, the number of futures bets that a betting site has available will probably depend on that betting site – bigger bookies will likely have quite a few, while small betting sites might only have one or two.
The market which will be pretty universally available is, unsurprisingly, the championship winner market. This is pretty self-explanatory, simply requiring you to bet on which team you think will finish on top of the EPL that season.
But there can be more options. You might also be able to bet on things like leading goalscorer, to make the Champions League and more. These kind of bets can provide an added layer of interest to the EPL season.
Below, we answer some of the most commonly asked questions about the English Premier League.
The Premier League is a unique one when it comes to coverage. Unlike many other leagues, for which broadcast rights might be spread across free to air and Foxtel, or for whom you might be able to watch games on a popular medium such as Foxtel and/or Kayo, the EPL is available solely on Optus Sport. This is an exclusive rights deal, meaning that to watch any EPL games you will have to sign up with Optus Sport.
Obviously, this depends on the season, but the English Premier League – unlike something such as the AFL – is one league where there are only a handful of teams who are ever really likely to win it. The EPL has historically been dominated by Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City, with only one team other than them winning the league in the last 30 years – that being when Leicester City bizarrely won in 2015-16. Of late, it has been Manchester City dominating proceedings, winning six out of seven championships between 2017 and 2024.
A whole lot of blood, sweat and tears goes into our EPL predictions. Well not literally, but we do think long and hard before making them. We go into a little more detail above, but basically there is a lifetime of knowledge behind it, as well as a whole lot of research, honing in on the details that we think are the most important to come up with what we believe to be pretty decent EPL predictions.
The data that we use to make our EPL expert predictions is outlined in greater detail above, but we consider a whole lot of things when coming up with them, including recent form, history between the two involved teams, how the sides match up with one another, where the game is being played, and the importance of the game to each team.
You’ve got a couple of options here. If you’re a pretty shoddy bettor, then you might be best off just taking our word for things and following our bets. But if you want to back yourself but still want a little more input, then you can simply take a read through our analysis of each game, suss out our EPL tips, and see if they line up with your own – or if they sway you from what you were thinking.
In short; plenty. Injuries and suspensions can obviously have a major impact on how a team is likely to perform. Obviously at times, teams have a full bill of health, but at others they might not and this can have a big impact on match outcome. As much as a coach likes to preach the ‘one in, one out’ mentality, realistically, if your best player or two is out injured or suspended, it is going to have a significantly detrimental impact on your team.
