It had been billed as the biggest game of the season so far and it sure didn’t disappoint, as Melbourne and Geelong locked horns at the MCG.

Both sides enjoyed spells of dominance during the game, but it was Melbourne who came out on top.

The closeness of the contest was exemplified by the 74-66 scoreline and both sides will be looking to kick on from here over the remainder of the campaign and they are both seen as firm AFL championship contenders with all AFL betting sites.

Melbourne’s mettle

Winning 7 games from a possible 7 was always going to get fans and punters talking and Geelong have enjoyed the hype surrounding them this season.

However, unbeaten records are always there to be shot at and Melbourne went for Geelong from the off.

The Cats put Melbourne under pressure for large periods of the contest, but Melbourne stood firm and managed to eke out an important win.

Bouncebackability

Riding the crest of a wave when all is going well is one thing, but the Geelong Cats will now need to show their mental resolve this season.

Losing tight games can happen to any team and Geelong will be out to prove that they are the real deal this season with all punters and AFL betting sites.

Games against Port Adelaide and Gold Coast await next, before a whopping encounter with fellow high-flyers the GWS Giants.

Playoff push

Both of these Victorian giants came up short when it mattered last season, something they will want to rectify in 2024.

With just 3 losses between them from 16 games played collectively, both Geelong and Melbourne have set the platform for a successful campaign ahead.

Whilst there is plenty of footy to be played, both Geelong and Melbourne are being well backed to make the playoffs with all AFL betting apps.
