Whilst it remains early days in the 2024 AFL season, the league table is beginning to take shape. Jostling for position at the top and bottom of the table is the key objective for every team in the division currently and this promises to be another big week of action for both punters and AFL betting sites, at both ends of the AFL table.

Adelaide vs Melbourne
It has been a start of the season to forget for Adelaide, who are yet to pick up a point this season and they face off against Melbourne next. Adelaide haven’t had an easy fixture list to kick off 2024 but they may perhaps rue a couple of missed opportunities along the way in the games they have played. Early season performances from Melbourne have been hugely impressive and they have the look of a side that could compete for the Championship with many AFL betting sites.
Adelaide will push Melbourne here but the visitors should prevail.
Bookmaker | Sam’s Tip | Odds |
Total Points – Over 161.5 | $1.85

Brisbane vs North Melbourne
Four consecutive losses was not the start to the season that 2023 finalists Brisbane were hoping for, but they will be looking to get back on track here against North Melbourne. The Lions have endured a few poor results, which has shocked plenty of punters and small betting sites but they are a dangerous outfit and they will want to show their mettle here. North Melbourne meanwhile are in dire straits, and they look bereft of confidence, but they shouldn’t fear this assignment at the Gabba.
Brisbane are a side in desperate need of a win, and they should get one here.
Bookmaker | Sam’s Tip | Odds |
Total Points – Over 159.5 | $1.80
Winning Margin: Brisbane 25+ | $4.00
Brisbane to win the match | $1.14 |

Port Adelaide vs Essendon
Two teams with identical records this term face off here, as Port Adelaide host Essendon. Last week’s loss to Melbourne was a tough one to take for the Port Adelaide Suns but they remain a serious force in the AFL this season. Essendon meanwhile have dug deep to pick up their two wins this season and look to have the raw materials to mount a playoff push. This will be a good one, with Port Adelaide most likely to come out on top at home.
Bookmaker | Sam’s Tip | Odds |
Todd Marshall – First Goal Scorer | $10.00
Port Adelaide to win the match | $1.30
Total Points – Over 171.5 | $2.05 |

West Coast vs Sydney
Having lost their first game of the season last time out, the Sydney Swans could not have a better bounce back game than the West Coast Eagles. For the hosts, they are the hot favourites for the AFL wooden spoon once again with most punters and AFL betting sites, and this fixture will be a real challenge. Sydney have a good look about them this season and they should pick up an important win on the road here.
Bookmaker | Sam’s Tip | Odds |
Total Points – Over 175.5 | $1.81
Winning Margin: Sydney 25+ | $4.50
Sydney to win the match | $1.05 |

Sydney: Braeden Campbell, Callum Mills, Dane Rampe, Errol Gulden, Harry Cunningham, Hayden McLean, Isaac Heeney, Jake Lloyd, James Rowbottom, Joel Amartey, Lewis Melican, Logan McDonald, Nick Blakey, Oliver Florent, Robbie Fox, Ryan Clarke, Tom Papley.
Fremantle vs Carlton
Something will have to give here, as two of the unbeaten sides in the 2024 AFL season face off. Fremantle have been one of the surprise packages of the campaign so far and who knows how far they can go with confidence up. Meanwhile, Carlton continue to plod along, in pursuit of the AFL title and they too look to be bounding into each game currently. This will be close, with Carlton potentially having too much for Fremantle in this one.
Bookmaker | Sam’s Tip | Odds |
Carlton to win the match | $1.73
Total Points – Under 171.5 | $2.05
Winning Margin: Carlton 1-12 | $6.50 |
Predicted Squads
Fremantle: Alex Pearce, Andrew Brayshaw, Brandon Walker, Brennan Cox, Caleb Serong, Ethan Hughes, Hayden Young, Jaeger O'Meara, Jordan Clark, Josh Treacy, Jye Amiss, Lachlan Schultz, Liam Henry, Luke Jackson, Luke Ryan, Matthew Johnson, Michael Walters, Michael Frederick, Nat Fyfe, Neil Erasmus, Sam Switkowski, Sean Darcy.
Carlton: Adam Cerra, Adam Saad, Alex Cincotta, Blake Acres, Brodie Kemp, Charlie Curnow, David Cuningham, Harry McKay, Jack Martin, Jacob Weitering, Jordan Boyd, Lachie Fogarty, Marc Pittonet, Matthew Cottrell, Matthew Kennedy, Matthew Owies, Mitch McGovern, Nic Newman, Paddy Dow, Patrick Cripps, Sam Docherty, Sam Walsh, Tom De Koning.
Western Bulldogs vs Geelong
Another pair of highly improved sides face off here, as the Western Bulldogs host Geelong. For the Bulldogs, maintaining a playoff push will be their key objective this term, after they fell away when it mattered in 2023. Meanwhile, Geelong have shocked plenty of punters and AFL betting sites with their results this term and who knows how far they could go. This should be a whopper, with Geelong ready to cause another stir on their travels.
Bookmaker | Sam’s Tip | Odds |
Geelong to win the match | $1.82
Winning Margin: Geelong 1-12 | $6.50
Total Points – Over 169.5 | $1.91 |
Predicted Squads
Western Bulldogs: Aaron Naughton, Adam Treloar, Alex Keath, Anthony Scott, Bailey Dale, Bailey Smith, Bailey Williams, Caleb Daniel, Cody Weightman, Jack Macrae, Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Laitham Vandermeer, Liam Jones, Marcus Bontempelli, Mitch Hannan, Oskar Baker, Rhylee West, Rory Lobb, Taylor Duryea, Tim English, Tim O'Brien, Tom Liberatore.
Geelong: Bradley Close, Gary Rohan, Isaac Smith, Jack Bowes, Jack Henry, Jake Kolodjashnij, Jed Bews, Jeremy Cameron, Max Holmes, Mitch Duncan, Sam De Koning, Tom Atkins, Tom Hawkins, Tom Stewart, Tyson Stengle, Zach Guthrie, Zach Tuohy.
Gold Coast vs GWS Giants
Top of the table GWS Giants put their 100% record on the line, as they travel up to the Gold Coast. For the hosts, this is a chance to test themselves against what is one of the best sides in the league right now and they will certainly be up for the challenge. Meanwhile, the GWS Giants truly are a force to be reckoned with this season and they’re being backed to go all the way. This will be a humdinger, with the GWS Giants likely to emerge unscathed.
Bookmaker | Sam’s Tip | Odds |
GWS Giants to win the match | $1.40
Total Points – Over 159.5 | $1.78
Jesse Hogan First Goal Scorer | $8.50 |
Predicted Squads

Himmelberg, Harry Perryman, Jack Buckley, Jake Riccardi, Josh Kelly, Jesse Hogan, Kieren Briggs, Lachie Ash, Lachie Whitfield, Lachlan Keeffe, Nick Haynes, Sam Taylor, Stephen Coniglio, Toby Bedford, Toby Greene, Tom Green, Xavier O'Halloran.
Richmond vs St Kilda
Two sides that have shown glimpses of their quality in the AFL this season face off, as Richmond host St Kilda. As ever, there will be absolutely no love lost between these two sides at the MCG and the atmosphere should be at fever pitch throughout. Richmond have won 1 from 4 played this term, with St Kilda winning 1 from 3, making it very tough to call a winner. This will be tight, but it may well be St Kilda who manage to sneak through and grab the points.
Bookmaker | Sam’s Tip | Odds |
St Kilda to win the match | $1.33
Total Points – Over 169.5 | $1.90
Jack Higgins First Goal Scorer | $9.50 |

St Kilda: Anthony Caminiti, Ben Paton, Brad Crouch, Bradley Hill, Callum Wilkie, Dan Butler, Dougal Howard, Jack Higgins, Jack Sinclair, Jack Steele, Jade Gresham, Jimmy Webster, Josh Battle, Liam Stocker, Marcus Windhager, Mason Wood, Mattaes Phillipou, Max King, Mitchito Owens, N. Wanganeen-Milera, Rowan Marshall, Ryan Byrnes.
Collingwood vs Hawthorn
Having broken their duck for the season last time out against Brisbane, Collingwood will want to continue to charge on here against Hawthorn. The Magpies have really struggled at times this term but their quality in key areas should see them at least push for a playoff spot. Meanwhile, Hawthorn are one of 5 sides that are yet to win an AFL game this season and the pressure looks to be ramping up on them. Collingwood need a home win and they should get just that here.
Bookmaker | Sam’s Tip | Odds |
Collingwood to win the match | $1.29

Brody Mihocek First Goal Scorer | $11.00 |
