Liverpool crash out of the FA Cup

Ever since it was announced in January 2024 that Jurgen Klopp would be leaving Anfield at the end of the season, many punters and international betting sites had Liverpool chalked in for a quadruple of trophies.

The reds have won the Carabao Cup but were painfully knocked out of the FA Cup by Manchester United.

Football always has a habit of producing the incredible and when Manchester United and Liverpool meet, the stakes are ramped up to an all-time high.

With the history of the two clubs dating back over a century and with absolutely no love lost between them, the FA Cup quarter final was always going to be highly charged.

The tie did of course live up to its billing, with Manchester United coming out on top, leaving Liverpool to ponder what might have been.

For all the plaudits levelled at Jurgen Klopp during his time at Anfield, the FA Cup is a competition he has always endured a tough relationship with.

The 2022 triumph aside, this was only Liverpool’s second FA Cup quarter final in a decade under Jurgen Klopp and playing Manchester United at Old Trafford is always a tough ask.

United took the lead through Scott McTOminay, with Alexis MacAllister and Mohamed Salah hitting back for Liverpool. Anthony forced extra time for United, with Harvey Elliott and Marcus Rashford exchanging strikes before substitute Amad Diallo won it for the Red Devils.

Bouncebackability

Winning multiple trophies simply isn’t for everyone and Liverpool will need to show serious resilience if they are to fight on in both the Premier League and the Europa League.

The reds are the favourites to win both the Premier League and the Europa League with many punters and betting sites and they will need to justify that position after the international break.

Big games continue to roll in at this point of the season, meaning Liverpool won’t have long to dwell on this loss and there is plenty to play for this season still for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

FA Cup up for grabs

With the seemingly insurmountable Liverpool now dispatched, the other 4 sides in the competition will be breathing a sigh of relief.

Holders Manchester City take on Chelsea in the semi-finals, whilst Manchester United’s reward is a Wembley meeting with Championship side Coventry City.

With the final of the FA Cup set for Saturday 25th May, it promises to be another pulsating round of fixtures before somebody etches their name into FA Cup history.

Liverpool had looked set to tread new ground in 2024 and the quadruple looked to be a formality at Anfield this season.

However, Manchester United dug deep to knock them out of the FA Cup , with only 4 sides now remaining in the hunt for FA Cup glory in 2024.
